my favorite konitz.regretfully sold my mint harvard square i bought from ray avery in los angeles in 1962 when i was seventeen. this one and "konitz" plus at "storyville" had a swing and beauty that were incredible. he played with alot of power, confidence and speed having just come out of stan kentons band.a great artist along with miles, monk, trane. were all so fortunate that he is still with us! thanks for posting... great burt goldblatt cover photo and design.

Rest in peace Lee. A sad day in jazz. Lucky to see him in the sixties in los angeles and in the seventies in vancouver canada.

Lee Konitz has never stopped exploring and growing. He, like Warne Marsh and Ted Brown, is never less than interesting, smart, cerebral...include Desmond in that group. This recording swings just fine, too. Lennie Tristano, you done good.

R.I.P. V.I.P Lee. A shame it had to be Covid that took him from us (April 15, 2020). But he was still playing splendidly at 92, so that's no small accomplishment; up there with Benny Carter in terms of the longevity of his career as a performer. Here's a 2018 documentary of him getting to know some young Spanish jazz musicians and playing with them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJOVfoKCm8p0rMU

r.i.p. v.i.p.??? What horrific way to remember people die! Listen Jazz music and keep silent.
@hetmanjz
@hetmanjz Жыл бұрын
@@alessandromarchesini9039 "R.I.P." is from the Latin "requiescat in pace," meaning "may he/she rest in peace," or just "rest in peace" in English. "V.I.P." is short for "very important person." I don't understand what you're objecting to here. Are we supposed to pretend that Konitz didn't die?? Do you find my language not sufficiently respectful? Why are you saying (if I understand you correctly) that I should "keep silent"?

nice for me to see a couple of english names in the so classy band -Ronnie Ball and Peter Ind - both engrossed in Lennie Tristano 's ideas . I imagine the Tristano/Konitz band the real source of David Brubeck's morecommercial quartet idea.

Tracks 8-10 - If I had You, Ablution and Foolin' Myself - were recorded in Boston on January 5, 1954 and came from the Lee Konitz at Storyville album. The recording date given here is mistaken!

This is a puzzler. Storyville did exist for a while in Harvard Square, but by the time of this recording it was in Copley Square in Boston.

Stan Getz, Paul Desmond, Lee Konitz... Is there a correlation?
@alainjames9556
@alainjames9556 7 жыл бұрын
Not really. Lee is an original. Desmond was clearly influenced by him, but went his own way. Getz comes from a combination of Prez and Bird - but also developed an identity of his own.
