There are some really beautiful Irish names that I myself love, my entire family is Irish on both sides so they had a few names like Orla, Sinead, Miread (not sure on spelling) but chose my name which is Siobhán which I love, very pretty and other people have said the same thing, however saying it and spelling it very different lol, Christmas cards and birthday cards you see what is supposed to be Siobhán and think you have totally butchered up my name by adding more letters than need be, family does the same lol. Saying it would be Shivon, I hate it as Shi-vaun, you often hear my own family member from Ireland say Shivon. My own family has Irish names Bridget, Maura, Liam, Thomas, Aidan. My cousin girls have Ní (meaning daughter of) which is very special. Siobhán Boyle (Irish surname not Scottish)

He doesn't speak for all "English". His criticism is both humour and valid, the Irish are greatly amused by the confusion of other nations attempting their traditional names, despite speaking English as a primary language themselves.

@user-lt3he9ey4x Irish language is called "Irish ", French language is "French ", you get the jist. I think what Joe from Finland was referencing was that Finnish is too, a complicated pronunciation for non speakers. Now, I've an Irish name and am very proud of it. I speak Irish. When one meets someone that hasn't heard it before I have to descend into a whole "sounds like" malarkey game which us very frustrating. If anything it's a bit ignorant to not be bothered.

Some kids names in Ireland these days are getting very silly. Same old argument I know, but it's as true as ever, don't name your kid something they'll have to keep explaining and spelling over their lifetime.

He sounds a little ignorant tbh :( you shouldn't expect Irish names (which are spelled using irish phonetics and an adjusted alphabet) to be spelled how you would in english, using english phonetics. I know this is just to get a laugh and he probably means no harm, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth... its like he's pretending the Irish language doesn't even exist.
