I have all the Lee Oskar minor harmonicas and I love them. Never understood why people keep away from them. "Oh, that's not a propper harmonica", "Learn how to bend". Gatekeeping is strong in the harmonica community. That's more annoying than people not playing them.

Yeah it was interesting to hear Lee's motivations for making minor tunings. He definitely interacts directly with the music rather than being obsessed with the instrument itself, which you can't say for all of us!

Unfortunately it's something you hear for all kinds of instruments (or other kinds of art) Which to me doesn't make any sense at all from a creativity kind of perspective. The instruments we know today are also nothing else as a result of how instruments evolved. And they will continue to evolve. Even most of our hero's are so extremely well known and respected because they actually played outside the box. Using new ideas and concepts, sometimes quite literally modifying their instruments to get those ideas out. For harmonicas I never understood the traditional concept, exactly on the way Lee Oskar is describing. The biggest part is the chords, although even with "bending" one can only do so much.

Thanks Liam and thanks Lee. I have some of Lee's natural minor harps that have given me access to songs that would be very difficult for me without the special tuning. I had the pleasure of meeting Lee in January -- a very gracious man. I even got my Em harp autographed!! I hope you both keep up the great work.

That's when the harmonica is done best when it doesn't make you think you are hearing the harp.

The holes on a lee Oskar are a little bigger right?
@GrilloTheFlightless

They are wider, a little taller and have a smaller gap between holes. It makes them very easy to play.
