Ethan McWahaha Sarah was more self-sufficient in the Classic Series. She wanted to get on with her life too. Edit: You know, when I think on it, it’s usually more the Doctor clinging to his companions in the Classics than the companions clinging to the Doctor. Jo got married, Leela stayed with a new love interest, Romana staying to free a species, Nyssa finding a cure, Sarah, Tegan and Mel getting on with their lives, Ace joining the Academy, etc.

@@beepboopethanj It runs deeper than that, as he hates endings. He always tears out the last page of a Book, which means he tore out the last page of River Song's Diary too, which means he never reads how she died saving him, but since their timelines were inverted from each other, her ending is the first time he met her, so he already knows how it ends.

Blue 64 All the more complicated as he is a time traveller. As River puts it, “On a good night that means everyone you ever met is still alive and you can’t wait to see them again. On a bad night, it means everyone’s dead, and you want to charge around the universe, pretending you can do something about that,” in Day of the Doctor novel.

If the Doctor did get away before Leela found him opening the door to the TARDIS, would she hate him for leaving without saying good-bye? Would she change her mind and decide to be the leader of both the Sevateem & the Tesh?
