Hi Lee, good to see your first outing with the Intrepid. It was a shame you had to crop into your b&w shot but that's a great tree to go back to in the future. Liked your Velvia shot. Read the comments about the rotating back. That seems to be a dodgy design decision not adding something to keep it still when inserting the film holders? I'm sure it would be fairly simple to retro fit some sort of catch or clamp in two of the corners but I'm not sure this is something that should have been left out in the first place. Cheers.

Craig Prentis Ah thanks Craig, I’ve been binge watching your channel recently..., great to see the variety of film and cameras you use. I am a bit miffed to be honest that they haven’t sorted something for the back to keep it steady, I can envisage problems 😬

With regard to wanting increased depth of field don't you use lens tilt? I thought that was a major purpose of a view camera, not just large negatives. The fogging shouldn't be caused by tilting anything as you withdrew the holder if the dark slide was inserted. Maybe some light got to it in handling later. Thanks for an enjoyable video. I could enjoy some 4x5ing whilst you do the work!
@LeePengellyPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Steve K I do use tilt quite a bit, not on this particular video. The fogging was caused as I put the dark slide back in as the rotating back moved at this point. Sorted out these issues now though. Thanks for watching and your comments Steve, hope you enjoy some of my more recent 4x5” videos. 👍

Interesting video, great editing. The Velvia shot came up nice, it’s so unforgiving on the exposure, if you would’ve add more exposure you could have the details of the bottom of the image instead of that black grass, but then your sky would’ve been overexposed as it almost did with the exception of the top right corner. In the same image composition wise, I think you could’ve use some side swing to make the ledge side of the image less heavy handed in comparison to the right side. Maybe is not possible to correct that on DSLR’s or 35mm but that’s the beauty of the Large Format, you can strive for perfection. Which it was almost achieved. Your first image came out Outstanding. Thanks for posting the video

Thanks so much for your thoughtful and beautifully shot video. I'm waiting for the arrival of my Mk IV and appreciate your insights on the camera. One solution to the loose back might be to add a pin inserted from the front of the back standard that locks the rotation in place. I was also very impressed by your tripod head. Can you tell is what it is? TIA
@LeePengellyPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave I appreciate your comments and glad you liked the video. The back on mine seems to have tightened up over the past month so all is good for now but will keep a check on it. The tripod head is a Benro GD3WH geared head, did a review on this head on my channel. 😊
@IntrepidCameraCo5 жыл бұрын
Hello! We removed the magnets as they caused issues elsewhere and did not actually serve any purpose on the MK3 either. On some of the initial batch of MK4's the backs were not tight enough so we have increased tension on the rotating part to address this
@LeePengellyPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Intrepid Camera Co. Yes I believe this was the case with the Mk3. Unfortunately my Mk 4 is quite easy to knock out of place whilst loading and unloading film holders and dark slides. Not sure if it possible to add after market clips of some sort ?.

I find it easier this way as the knobs don’t get in the way. I guess it just works for me, I know other people use different configurations but whatever works best I guess.

Hi Lee, great video! I'm looking to order a MK4 in the next week or so but am a little concerned about the rotating back do you think this is how the cameras will ship? as it looks like it will lead to many mistakes in accidentally shifting the back it seems to move extremely easily even when inserting and removing darkslides.
@LeePengellyPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jules. I did contact them yesterday about this issue, it is a pain to be frank. Their 8x10 has corner stays which secure the back, would be a good addition to the 5x4.
