You can make room for the pedal sensor by grinding the inner face of the crank arm (the face that rubs on the pedal sensor). You can remove 4mm easy. There is always enough material to grind off.

£331 for the kit with 36v battery. I have an old mtb that's hardly been used that would benefit having this kit. Should be straight forward as it does have the bottle carrier and standard crank. Even if it lasts for a year or 2 that would be OK. It's a back up bike. My main is an engwe engine x which is brand new.

It looks as though, in the US, they only sell 48v rear wheel kits. I’m wondering if the thought is that lower voltage kits won’t compete in the US market. I recently purchase a folding ebike to resurrect my bike/train commute. So far I’ve really enjoyed not driving to work again.
@wrathofsocrus Жыл бұрын
They still have kits available that are 36V. All of my bikes are 36V and I've been happy with them. I don't need to be going any faster than what they allow and it was easier for me at the time to find used 36V packs for salvage. You can also use a 48V motor at 36V with a 36V controller. I got a deal on a used 46V bike that needed some work and I had a spare controller and battery from my old bike. It's probably more like 350W nominal @ 48V instead of 500W @ 48V, but it works well enough to pull a trailer around on flat ground (probably over 300lb/140kg rider + cargo).

One thing they don't give you is the parameter settings or the C settings or the splitter cable which is required if you want a back light also The Motor cables can be obtained in shorter length though .I tend to run all wiring through black shrink wrap tubing for neatness .I couldn't use their supplied pedal crank sensor at all as I couldn't get the crank arm off at all the supplied puller just took all the threads from the Aluminium crank arm out 😞 ended up with a split crank sensor which did the job .I was converting a Carreera vengeance from the HESC system as it was cheaper than a new Battery surprisingly Drilling into a frame to put Nutserts in will not weaken it though But I suppose if you want to put the kit on something else in future you would then end up with a bike with uneeded holes 🙂

Thinking of converting my Marin. This seems a good option. Slightly less complicated than rear wheel conversion? having to deal with the cassette etc. I am assuming the pedal assist could be left out if the sensor fitting is an issue and have throttle only. I would probably only use the throttle to give a boost whilst still pedaling on hills or slight inclines just to keep the overall speed up or as we say flatten out the hills.
@leepspvideoАй бұрын
@@livingladolcevita7318 I use just throttle as the bike in the thumbnail has a eccentric bottom bracket which isn’t good for pedal sensors. It’s still working great
@eliotcole Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but, Lee ... you can mod that paddle sensor no probs ... ;-) ... I know you have the capability. Just break out the wire and resolder (and strengthen) it. Heck, you even have a 3D printer, no? You could probably use that to help a bit!

I like that it's the front wheel, because then it can work with my hub geared (also belt drive) bike. I imagine that the application of power is better than those motors which run a little wheel against a wheel, right?

I'm not sure I've seen you print anything for the channel, but I feel like you may have mentioned it.... I could be wrong tho obviously.... but that bracket is JUST plastic right? (it doesn't look like there are any specialty pieces or connections on it, so I feel like it's completely 3d-printable) you could just print that bracket to turn the battery around, and the screw pieces.. you can get those metal 'bolt-type' things that you press in with a soldiering iron to melt the plastic a bit and they lock into the plastic giving you metal threads... Or you don't even have to do that, you can use the bolts you have and just make holes in the printed bracket so the bolts go right through.. maybe use a washer for best practice....
@leepspvideo Жыл бұрын
I would prefer aluminium or steel. The battery is heavy and would cause a lot of stress to a 3d printed adapter.

Great review - nice to see a recent one! I fitted one of these kits (rear hub) to my MTB that had sat around for years in the shed. I'm really pleased with the performance of it and it's made me enjoy cycling again! As an older guy with joint problems, I get light aerobic exercise without the strain that peddling a regular bike would put on them. I'm now looking to convert a friend's bike (where there is no room for a downtube battery) - I've seen they offer seat post battery options (Frog), presumably to accompany the 'bare' kits - have you ever done one of these type of conversions?

@leepspvideo25 күн бұрын
@@FuriousGato I’m very pleased with it. I recently sold one of my Swytch kits as I wasn’t using it because I prefer the Yose battery on the frame. The battery life is excellent, setup is still the same as the white Scott in the thumbnail. The Scott has an eccentric bottom bracket which doesn’t support pedal sensors so I use the supplied throttle control. The motor is noisier than a Swytch when working hard, but no louder than when I made the video. My work doesn’t allow electric bike batteries to be left in the building so I need to remove it and leave it in a locked area round the back of the store. The battery lock and fittings still feel nice and solid. Happily recommend this kit

@ thank you so much for your prompt and detailed reply! And great to know it serves you well. May I ask if you selected on purpose front wheel as opposed to back wheel motor? Is there any material difference? I’d assume front wheel is bit easier to install? Cheers 🙏

@ I picked front motor as the Scott has hub gears. I have also been impressed with both Swytch kits I’ve owned. Both have front motors. It is also much simpler to fit and more versatile

Also some one said about the Battery Mount, is switchable, you can pull out and put together opposite way, so you can switch around accord to your mount points. No sure thats true tho.

I was sent the 28” kit which fits exactly the same tyres as my 700c stock wheels that came with the Scott in the thumbnail. I have done 300 miles now. The kit is great I even used the throttle to take me through flooding last week so my feet didn’t get wet. The battery mount can be either way, the problem I had was the frame triangle didn’t have enough space to mount it the other way round.

@leepspvideo Жыл бұрын
I guess I better keep pedalling My electric bicycle has a throttle - is it legal? Since January 1 2016, the only throttles legal on new bikes are those that provide starting assistance ie. assist the rider without pedalling up to a maximum speed of 3.7 mph. At that speed, the throttle cuts off. If the cyclist pedals at the same time, the throttle can still assist up to the 15.5mph limit.
