i think the reason you did not keep the leerfish hooked is either because of drag that was too hard and your hooks ripped the fish's flesh. maybe try a bit of a softer drag especially if trolling on the surface. in the case of the dentex, you can see the fish instantly dive for a structure to break you off. smart fish :D

Fishing tehinique where you drag a live bait or lure cca 40-60 m behind your boat with speed from 1 to 5 knots. Mostly used for trophy fish like dentex, leerfish, amberjack, large sea bass ecc. Light trolling is used (wobler or raglou are commonly used,) mostly to catch smaller bait fish like mackarels ecc, but you can cath also large seabass). Heavy trolling with live squid, needlefish and other type of bait means you will 99% of time put your bait fish near the bottom with a lead weight (cca 500 gr,) but you can also troll it just bellow surface without any lead weight for leerfish for example like in this video. The best live bait by far is a needlefish rigged with 2-3 hooks depending on the size of the bait and a squid. You have to carefully rig them so the bait doesnt twist when draged through sea because the fish will not bite it.
