Lot different than from 65 to 67 when stationed at Fort Polk. Fond memories of the Red Wood Room. Perhaps things have changed in 50 years.

I was one of the vfirst people on the base when it reopened in 1962. Our unit was the first unit on the base to reopen the hospital. Was stationed there for 18 mo . Lesville was a very small town then , just a few streets. Diridder was 20 miles in the opposite direction, and just a little bigger. We did not have a px on the base for 6 mo. We no facilities at all for 6mo.exec a barracks a mess hall and the hospital unit to set up.. once that was done , then they began to set the rest of the base up.when we left only the south base was fully operational, north base was still being set up, part was functional, it was still several years before the entire base was fully operational

I remember living in leesville next to the highschool. Moved my family on base after a man was murdered at the gas station a block away from me. This town has a nasty hood side to it.

@@ursulasmith6402 No, i lived there. I am a combat vet who enjoyed working the LPOP. I am very good at that job. I can see what the problem here is. It is like a 80 percent chance it is local.

Hello to anyone that reads this. I have been looking for my birth mother for majority of my life. Her name is Dorothy Lovell(maiden name), She was married to my father for a short time while he was in the Army stationed in Louisiana in 1978. Her last name would have been Brown, I was born in March 1978. Something happened and my father when I was about 2 weeks old, took me to Indiana to stay with family on his side, while he finished his time in Army. My family only knows her name, that she had red hair, small build, very pretty, and she also had a daughter alittle older than me, they think her older daughters name is Lucretia (not sure of spelling). I have tried everything that I can, but have had no progress finding any information. So if anyone could please help, it would mean the world to me. Thank you 😊

Sure a lot different than when I was there in 1985-67. Sleezeville! Ripping off service personnel. Black and wite sections in movies, bus stations, bars, etc. Down town was arcades and bars. What an education for a kid from Los Angeles!
