In October 1998 my wife and I walked back down the isle to this after we were married. Still going strong!! What a fab piece of music. It brought back so many fab memories.

Sadly, 23 years and a day after we walked down the aisle to this, my wife passed away after a very long battle with illness.

What a great performance of this piece! I've never heard it played better. Having such a fantastic instrument and generous acoustic helps, of course, but the articulation and choice of tempi were spot on for me. Although this sounds as though it should work well on a fairground organ, this performance shows that you need a real person to inject the flexibility and rubato that really bring the piece to life.

I am trying it. I think it is not the most difficult thing once you get the rhythm with the foot playing the bass. And the syncopations as well as poyphonic organ music type parts.

always makes me chuckle this piece. our choirmaster and organist played this one Sunday morning during the flower festival. the crucifer refused to budge until he stopped playing the piece of music he shouted very loudly. Hilarious everyone left the altar priests and choir except the crucifier. By the time the choir and priests etc had gotten back to the Vestry I was page turner for this as well and we turned around when the piece was finished. Looked like the guy was about to burst a blood vessel. He was furious. Anyway lovely piece of music and as I say always makes me chuckle. This could easily have been written for a steam or peddle organ. Great performance as well. The crucifer just walked on when the choirmaster had finished. We did have a good old laugh at his expense as did the congregation, choir and priests.

The composer written it at the organ of St Sulpice where he was titulare organist at the time before Widor. Lefebure-Wely is one of the key figures who brought back french organ music leading to the romantic period.
