on reactions: we all have a peak hereditary visual reaction time, averaging between .2 and .3 seconds. you can't really change this, but you can at least maximize this by being in good physical condition (good sleep etc.) however peak reaction time rarely comes into play unless you are REALLY dialed in and really anticipating what the next move. when mixups are involved, people usually have to let what happened register in their brain before they can react, which slows down reactions a lot. an easy example is blocking overheads in traditional fighting games. you usually just block low, but overheads, whether grounded or jumping, usually take longer and a balanced overhead is just on the edge of reaction time to a mixup. so reaction time is a mix of peak hereditary reaction time + anticipating what could possibly come next. the more experience and knowledge of mixup layers, the better the reaction time also average audible reaction time is slightly faster than visual, and touch is even faster.

You can shave frames off your reaction time by watching the legs during get up animations for spacies. I enjoy practicing reaction tech chasing. It's relaxing. I never want to actually do it to people though because it's not fun to be reaction tech chased more than 3 times in a row.
