Left Hand Controls - In Cab

Happy thanksgiving as this was filmed thanksgiving day. I was on call since there’s no bulky collection thanksgiving day and the day after. So, since I was doing side load, I decided to set up my phone on a mount and get some in cab video. I don’t do side load often, so I want to show what’s it’s like. I’ll get hopper videos one day. I’ll invest in a go pro and get one eventually. For now, I’ll use my phone. I did get some video facing the hopper from in the cab. I just set my camera on my lunchbox and faced it out the back window. I’ll post that in a few weeks, as it turned out decent.
So I’m driving a rapid rail. Most of our trucks have right hand controls. I think only 4 trucks have left hand controls. At first I didn’t like left hand because I’m used to right hand and I was trained on right hand when I was first hired. Now I can do either.
So enjoy the in cab video. This is all I got and the mount my friend gave me is very shaky. I had to use my clip board to make it somewhat stable.

In my area, we use Australian trucks, all of our side loaders are right hand drive. Places over in Australia have left hand drive or dual drive, some other places around here in New Zealand have the same thing,

do you prefer the switches or a joystick? i've heard an equal amount of people say they like both. we have one driver down here where they actually fitted his autoreach with both switches and the standard joystick, and he really enjoys the combination of both you should get one of those really cheap "gopros" and use it in tandem with whatever camera you have now; one pointed at the controls and one pointed at the bins behind you. see if you can figure out a way to have a "picture in picture" video with that, i think that'll make a decent video

I like the switches. Some trucks have both switches and joystick. I tried the joystick recently and I didn’t like it that much. I’m way faster with the switches as that’s what I was trained on. I’ll get a GoPro eventually. I won’t be doing anything fancy. I don’t have time for all that editing.

I wouldn’t know. I can’t compare Australian trucks. I’m comfortable with this truck. Other trucks are way different.

Australia on the other hand has only 1 type of side loader. but u say ur trucks are better? yea dude nah i would prefer america over australia any day and not just because of me living in america but the reason of there being australia has 1 type of side loader.

This is really entertaining I could watch this all day. What route number is this? On Thursday. I think 2460, 2461, 2462, 2463, 2464 & 2465. Every other truck has the the same controls on the door. And the joystick the only thing is that you can shake the can with the joystick. I’m pretty sure its 8 seconds per can. During post Christmas I will see if your on Side load and Catch you somewhere. What truck is this? I’m guessing 2465 just from the arm sounds. I filmed 2465 yesterday and for he last 3-4 weeks. Then Logan is going to be talking my route in 2462. In three weeks. I’m hoping to get a GoPro and doing something like this. On the hopper or something people say do it on the arm but the rapid rail arms are to shake so. Anyways Awesome video.

This is route 1 and I was in 2463. 62-65 have left hand controls. Yeah there’s changes coming. Big changes. People leaving and new hires coming in. Guys taking side load routes and such. Going to be crazy. Not sure where I’ll be during the holidays. I’ll be getting a GoPro soon. I’ll be getting hopper footage for sure.

Most routes are good. Some more heavy than others depending on the neighborhood. 2465 is being used as a spare right now. Soon things will be changing with drivers switching routes. I can do a side load route. I’ve been able to for a while and I have done a few routes the past few months. I don’t have an Instagram. I only have Facebook and I’m barely on it. We had a bulky route on Saturday. Both trucks and the tractor were running. We rolled over 68 piles. We had 220 piles Thursday and Friday and couldn’t finish it all on Friday. We rolled over the gated communities off maritime, and everything on babson.
