Speaking at the tenth edition of ThinkEdu Conclave, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, said that she wants to make the institution 'viswaguru' at a global level. She also added that "any institution will have such students. It is one of India's most inclusive and socially committed institutions with the best research and academic programmes,".

She is so right about how people become incompetent when everything is provided for free or taken care of, I worked at a place for 2yrs where they provided everything for almost free (housing, food, alcohol drinks, phonebills , swimming, helath etc .,) But the wages were very little, When I got out of that place after 2yrs it was very hard for me to arrange things and felt so incompetent and so dependent, compared to my collegues, but after about an yr I got used to outside world and thriving now. Social benefits are provided for the needy so that they can use the benefits and come out the situation and help other people in the society who are in need, Not to make u depend and incompetent for the rest of u r life.

This is type of Professors, Teachers and Vice Chancellors India needs to have who are not political agents to decide the running and future of Universities, but people dedicated and committed to the sector of Education and the future of the children. Hope the Govt. do not interfere in her work to settled their scores with the Left parties and let her run the show of their own and give her proper powers to utilise it. She doesn't look to be a confrontative VC unlike the earlier VCs who were more interested in fulfilling their master's agenda than being the guiding lamp for the students. Glad that a lady is taking the position and responsibility to show the real women power and empowerment. The facists forces have used JNU for their political game and spoiled the name and reputation of the University and those who doesn't value education and illeterate are after JNU to either shut it or get a stronghold on the University as this is a University where student from deprived background can educate themselves and be independent which the powerful doesn't want. To resolve caste discrimination you suggest removal of surnames for it indicates caste; for religious discrimination, we remove our names which indicate religion? For linguistic discrimination we remove names that indicate language? This isn't the right approach. If someone wrongs you for your identity, ideal way is to deal with the wrongdoer instead of giving up your identity. Many of us carry our family name (not father's name) as our identity, pride. It's a great feeling of representing an entire lineage. Removing surnames is not the solution, it will be a great disservice to the culture of such people. In TN, removing surnames has wiped out neither caste based reservation nor the caste discrimination. Secondly, I do agree that the people from north of India should be open to learn at least one or two south Indian languages like Telugu, Kannada, etc. Likewise, people in TN also must be open to learn Hindi. Let every Indian learn more than one Indian languages other than one's mother tongue.
