H2S is not only a hazard in the oil and gas industry but to any industry that may have excavations or underground facilities of any type. Any space below ground can accumulate H2S as it is a natural substance that can be almost anywhere.

Who the hell is going to ignore multiple H2S alarms? Any type of alarm for that matter. No one I know would ever stand there and think about it. Those alarms go off and you GTFO.

gregg4164 - Correct, and don't forget to take 'the guys next to you' that, for whatever reason, may NOT have heard the alarm. You look out for them, they look out for you, in addition to your self. That way, we ALL go home to our families.

I used to work in the gas camps up north in Canada for years, I was just a cook or a chef though. However, this video brought back a lot of memories. Complacency is no joke. We take it for granted in the camp, but so do many of the crew. As a cook/chef/camp staff you get to know these crew pretty well. So manyt have their wife and kids at home so seeing that element in this video was en point. Safety is often seen as overrated, and often it is. There is so much redundancy and many people are just tired with dealing with shut downs and checks because they want to keep working to make sure they can keep the money flowing. Probably one of the most awakening moments I had was on a rotation where the safety officer only had 1 arm. He was such a chill guy and very happy. He wanted to stress that safety was more important than most people thought and he wanted people to look at him and realize it. He lost his arm in a cable accident, that had nothing to do with H2S obviously, and he was in the hospital until Chevron offered him re-training to become a safety officer. He made much more money as a safey officer than he had as a roughneck/tool push, but he always said that he would rather have the lower pay and still be able to hold his wife like he used to. To play catch with his son as he did. To lift his new born daughter up and hold her close. He took the money because he didn't want anyone else recklessly persuing profits over their own health and wellbeing. He was a happy guy, still is I suppose. But he had been able to understand that his purpose in life had irrevocably changed. I will never forget him. \ Please all, pay attention. Be safe.

Please note that H2S comes from below, and the gas detector placement is not worn together with the helment . Please put proper. Work safe
@mixpix

Simplistic view of it. It's all about best placement for the situation. If your face is near/over a pipe, having it at your chest may not be the best spot. You're going to breath it in before your monitor detects it. H2S is heavier than air on it's own, but when it's entrained in hydrocarbons it's going everywhere. There are so many factors (temperature, % of H2S, humidity, wind, etc) that have to be taken into account, it's not as simple as some make it out to be.

This is great work from Express Energy Services. A lot of thought has gone into acquainting people with the actual hazards of H2S. The dramatic scenarios make a larger impact and definitely gets the message across. This is a highly recommended watch for all corporations fighting the H2S menace. My congratulations to EES for the contribution they are making in creating the awareness. Dipal (ASK-EHS Engg. & Consultants)

We has a H2s leak a few years ago in West Texas. I confess, as a non-Texan and non-oilfield employee, I had no clue what it was, why people downwind were evacuated, and stuffed in safe hotels. 😓😵😖Now I know. That 💩is nasty AND DEADY.

"Just do what the other guys are doing in case SHTF. You don't need no training. Read this brochure if you must." I hate that mentality. Having worked in the chemical industry for a decade in 3 different plants, it seems to be everywhere. If I never bothered to ask anybody to show me how to properly wear breathing protection, I probably would have never learned and be one of the first to die in case of leakage.

Well done. And if you're going into an H2S (or potentially so) a good solution is to wear supplied air. Even then, if that monitor goes off, leave IMMEDIATELY. The job can wait. YOU need to go home to your family.

I work with Nh3 as an industrial refrigeration service tech. Although Nh3 is far more controlled and essentially less lethal than H2S, I can’t express enough how this affected me... There’s already so many ways death can gitchya, whether it be electricity, falling from lethal heights, moving parts, stored energy... Bro... It breaks my heart to think one misstep, one bad choice, one instance of ignorance, has resulted in families wondering why their fathers, brothers, sons, are gone. I have two little baby daughters... It’s hard to watch what could potentially be your family’s fate. This video is definitely worth sharing. It’s gnarly how much we all have to contend with, WITHOUT workin around caustic toxic chemicals...

Everybody keeps saying how great of a safety video this is but I don't see it yeah it tugs at your heartstrings But good safety videos scare you and teach you at the same time This ones just trying to scare you About all I took away from this safety video was it was a inexperienced crew with a foreman that wasn't paying attention and a company that was more worried about getting the job done If that's the case Then you're screwed no matter what you do Other than just quit and leave Second why was the guy worried Was he about to lose his job did he not know how to do the job was he fighting with his wife it feels like some sub plot thrown in there just for the hell of it This just feels like they dumped a lot of money into some Artsy fartsy Rip off of groundhog day That didn't explain What they could have done to prevent it Some of the best safety videos that I've seen are ones that analyze the problem and break it down so that you can learn from it I've not learned anything from this other than these men I have families

Good video but H2S isn't limited to the oil and gas industry. In Edwardsville, IL 2 street dept employees were killed and a police officer was injured last year when going into a man hole. 1 died inside the manhole itself the other died at the exit trying to rescue his friend. I wish they had seen this video. If they had maybe they would still be alive today.

@skunkjobb
@skunkjobb 8 жыл бұрын
+Dan S. I would say it depends on if you know where the source of the gas release is or not. If you are working on a well (or some other point source of gas release close to you) it would make sense to go upwind. If the alarm sounds and you don't know where the gas comes from, going upwind might take you closer to the release point at that is no good so going cross wind would be the right thing. Maybe it's best to have one common recommendation so you don't have to think and then I agree with you that crosswind is the way to go.

Must have been my farts! (Okay! But remember this is only a scripted film!) Only thing I did not like about this film thus far (00:00 - 19:15) is the portrail that all 300 000 000 or so Americans are purely heterosexual, have three of four children each, and drive about in GM products! WHY all this stereotyping? I get so tired of Hollywood making everything so right wing conservative, with NO variations or diversification! This is the corporate Disney-like fantasy 'America' not the real world of DIVERSITY! I realise that H2S poses a serious problem, that is one reason I am pushing for an environmentally friendly ALTERNATIVE to fossil-fuel! I am an ardent advocate of railway and land based transport electrification (and the renewable sources for that). I am taking a break on this film as it is after 2200 where I am at and shall resume tomorrow during daylight hours (Noise Abatement Ordinance) can't really enjoy this if I can't HEAR it!.

IF you can't add something WORTHWHILE to the narrative of safety, either LEARN something valuable (for once in your life) or STFU and go your own mindless way. BTW, WHERE do you think that electricity for your 'transportation electrification' is going to come FROM? Giant windmills? LMAO! The level of stupidity in your mindless rant is rather typical of libturd nonsense.
