I was born in a majority white place, 96%. Despite it being one of the most impoverished areas in the country AND currently dealing with a massive opioid epidemic, the crime rate is VERY low. People are shocked for YEARS after murder, and lately, most of the murders have been committed by black people from out of state, which is weird. Anyway, poverty alone doesn't predict crime.

@jamobohalo fbi crime statistics are broken down by race. I wouldnt be surprised if the last 10 years they weren't fudging the numbers though. But that where the 13 does 50 meme came from. 13% of the population does 50% of violent crime. and if you break it down further by age and sex, it's really 3% does 50. Cause it's black males from ages 12 to 30.. its not 50 year old black males. it's not black women. so removing them from the statistic and you get 3% does 50% of violent crime.

Exactly. The acceptance of criminality in a poor culture is higher so we see that correlation. But if you are ostracized from your culture for committing crimes, you'll have low crime rates. If your culture takes an acceptance of certain crime or at the least apathy towards it, you'll have lots of crime. Poor areas just also tend to be more accepting of crime as a justification for "dealing" with poverty.

You can tell how much violent crime a city has just by looking at it's rates of single parenthood. POVERTY DOES NOT BREED CRIME, this has long been debunked by simple analysis of generational changes from census records and various financial institutional reports, such as FRED. CRIMINALS live in places with people that are "poor" because it is affordable because criminals do not follow the patterns of people who build wealth and financial security. Blacks do not widely diffuse in rural and exurban areas, historically, they tend to move toward population centers. The "per capita" is why it all matters, in the 150 most populated counties of 3000 in the US, black American males 14-40 are inordinately likely to commit violent crime and violent crime across the color line. There is no disputing the mountain range of evidence on this, it's really silly to entertain "activists" that stumble over their own language.

I don't think that the Civil Rights Act or the 19th Amendment were the problem. I think that the way the Democrats responded to those things that got us to where we are. They had to do something to counter the effects of those acts so they, under LBJ, declared the war on poverty. They made it more profitable for poor women, especially black women, to dissolve the family and live of the avails of the welfare state. They destroyed the family and that left children to grow up in environments in which fathers were only good for support payments, which women could use to supplement their welfare payments. The teamwork of parents, in the household, was gone and statistics have shown it to hurt children in profound ways. Higher addictions, aversion to hard work, increased crime and more. 80% of those in jail come from single parent families and it was the Democrats who encouraged it, even applauded it.

Guess we'll just ignore the impact on cultures and what's deemed acceptable within those cultures. Poverty may be the strongest contributor but unless criminal behavior considered taboo by a culture and disincentivized rather than promoted by the overwhelming majority of people within that culture, the statistics will slant the way they do. Race doesn't have anything to do with it, it's culture. Poor people may be more likely to rationalize, justify, or at the least not condemn crime as much as people in higher socio-economic classes, but if you have a poor culture in an area that all condemns crime as taboo, you won't have much of any crime.

When it comes to general crime yes the numbers are similar between black and white communities but when it comes to violent crime its not and thats measured on a per capita basis. There is a computer model where you can adjust the populations when you make the black population as large as the white and the white as small as the black , total murders go from a little over 12,000 to over 40,000. 12:10 You know what, that is actually fair criticism, I actually hadn't thought about that. Personally, I live in Australia, we don't do tipping here, it is weird, they should be getting their wages from their employer, who gets money from us, the customer, if you're a bad server, you get fired, not you get less tips. So obviously, I am not clued in on the whole tips thing Americans do, so I thought Trumps idea was just all around good, that said, I do think Trump will do more for lowering taxes across the board than just no tax on tips, but I fully understand this guys point, it is unfair to people working jobs where you don't get tips at all. So, good critique.

With the minimum wage and tipping thing. Servers dont actually make less than minimum wage. If their tip amount doesn’t add up to what the minimum wage is the business is responsible for making up the difference.
