Thanks, and why not? You ever fish a deceiver? Im guessing you mostly small creek fish for trout? Tied a bit smaller this can be an awesome fly for still water predatory trout, bass, pike and most saltwater species that target baitfish.

@@McFlyAngler ok thanks I’ll tie it smaller. And yes I mostly fish for trout.

Cool, yeah it will work for predatory trout. Most likely smaller is better, and with a thinner wire streamer hook for sure. Maybe I’ll try at one point to do a video on this in a smaller size.

Great tie on a great fly! One of my go-to flies for big largemouth. I always start with Chartreuse/White and rarely need to change, but may got to Grey instead of Chartreuse to mimic Shad. Really appreciate your work McFly! 👍👍🎣

Nice! Excellent Striped Bass pattern in the Northeast. My go to colors just the same, olive/white, or simply white over white. I like my hackles slightly longer and a bit more tapered, just personal preference. Keep the flash minimal, couple strands. Let the bucktail do it’s job. And it does. You can tie these much smaller for freshwater. Same pattern just scaled down. I’ve had success streaming them for Brookies and Browns, still-water largemouth and small, perch, bluegill, you name it. A genius time tested fly that will catch fish! Glad you’ve shown it. It’s a standard in my box.

Yes for sure a great pattern. And that’s what is great about tying your own, you can customize it to your preferences. Change colors, materials, feather types, add no flash, little flash, lots of flash. It allows you to customize to your needs and preferences and hopefully catch more fish.

Awesome! Yeah they can be tied in all different color combos, once you find the one that works then keep tying them.

You think this could work for big trout? Or should i stick to the others? Gonna tie these for bass anyways but still curious hah..
@jbpipes9551

Sure will, just scale it down.
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it would, many people will use large articulated streamers on big browns while drifting down rivers. But this could work as well for that. Also it will work in still water situations as well for trout. As JB-Pipes said, scale it down if you desire, but if you have trout eating large baitfish in your local waters, then you might not need to. I would however recommend getting a thinner wire hook as this is just too beefy for trout. The penetration wont be there even though they are sharp hooks. Use a regular freshwater streamer style hook for this if your targeting trout.

Another great tutorial. I think of this pattern having pointed thinner hackles for the tail. Doubt it matters to the fish tho. This version looks like the bucktail blocks the body wrap. If you leave the sides a bit exposed does the body wrap look like a lateral line?
@McFlyAngler
@McFlyAngler 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. As for the tail, you definitely can use pointed tail feathers but I’ve seen it with the round more often. In the water you see the body wrap. The original way this was tied by lefty was with the double clumps of white bucktail under like that. People have done it with a single clump under as well but not what he originally tied it as. I find with the larger ones like this that the double clumps are a better way to tie. For the smaller ones though just do a single under.

@@McFlyAngler thanks for your reply. Keeping the bucktail on the top and bottom might make a narrower shad like shape and give a side to side action. Wrapped around it might give a rounder mullet or sardine shape and push water. There's gotta be hundreds of versions of this pattern.
