Fascinating i learned riding English & its so Fascinating hearing the complete difference, yeah we squeeze on side we want them to go, however we're always taught lower leg facing forward, rather than, than rotting calf & having foot pointing outwards, we refer that as penguin feet, the squeeze should be calf to bend rips rather than rotting foot with toe pointing outwards, instead heels down, toes forward. Canter 1 leg normal position & other leg slightly back, both squeezing together, keep pressure until canter starts then release, trotting would be quick squeeze both legs standard position, rein back both legs behind girth pressure kept on for length of rein back xxx

Do you sit differently in the saddle when you are on a leisurely Trail Ride, than you do when you are training? I see so many people sit back and deep on a gaited horse, but you sit so straight and upright. I'm confused.

Great question. On a trail ride, it is easy for me to be lazy and sit back more, but ideally, you would have a correct upright seat all the time. Yes, you see a lot of riders sitting back and deep, but they aren't correct for correct riding.

People should check out the latest horse bio mechanics, based on research, in re: riders seat & leg, as it's different than the more traditional guidelines. Example: heels down, locked in that position no longer correct.
