I love these videos in museums, but I rarely have enough time to sit and watch them. This is a great way to see them.

I'm so lucky to have a South Dakota class near my home. Long live BB-59 USS Massachusetts and BB-60 USS Alabama. God bless the men who served on these iron giants.

One of the richest highlights of my life is the day we spent going through the USS Alabama. We went back north to Meridian MS that night but I wanted to go back to the ship the next day. Something about those monsters just draw you in.

I grew up in South Dakota and visited the USS South Dakota memorial several times. It was always a bit sad to see how little of her was left. I am glad Alabama avoided the South Dakota’s fate and is still here today representing the class along with USS Massachusetts.

We've been in contact with her memorial to help them in any way we can. As well we've been in contact with Indiana University to help them preserve and keep the portions left of Indiana in the best shape possible.

Was lucky enough to spend the night on the battleship when I was a boy scout. One of my most memorable trips. Been several times since and everytime it still baffles me that these are on the smaller side of battleships. Found the channel through the battleship NJ page. Thank you for all you do to preserve these beautiful ships.

While the smallest class of fast battleships the South Dakotas are actually the third largest class of battleship the US ever built!

Great documentary! Thank you for posting. Thank you for preserving and maintaining this important piece of history. We are rapidly losing our WWII veterans (1st hand accounts of the war). It is essential that future generations have these resources available to them. I highly recommend taking a couple of days and visiting The USS Alabama Battleship Park and The National Naval Aviation Museum (if it ever re-opens to the public) in nearby Pensacola.

We wish we had some oral histories with the men of Indiana. I have a particular interest in Battleship Indiana. I've worked with Indiana University to make sure her artifacts are painted appropriately.

You have done a great job documenting the story of my uncle Art Muffett's ship. He was a shell striker in a 5" turret. The one negative thing that happened aboard his ship was the accident when one five inch turret fired into the rear of another after overriding a training stop. Six men died and I have always wondered why no one talks about the accident and thereby dishonors the 6 brave men who died in it. I am not one to make a big deal out of such an incident of this sort but still believe these 6 men deserve to be honored. There is a plaque on the turret honoring them but that is it. Unless you go to the ship (I've been twice) you might never learn of this sad truth. Thanks for your work.

I had the pleasure of being able to spend the night a few times in boy scouts back in the 90's. It was an amazing experience. We did a game of hide and go seek. Talk about the ultimate game lol. Love the ship. Its awesome to see as your coming across I-10 Bridge through the alabama border.
