Yeah, he really is determined to make up for believe in Moebius's lies about vampires, just because Moebius was manipulated by the Elder for his own agenda and his hate for vampires because they couldn't return to the Wheel of Fate and feed him. And hence why he even revealed to Raziel how he used the Heart of Darkness to revive Kain as a vampire, to set him down that path that would lead him to becoming Scion of Balance.

This is not the first time actually Kain and Hylden Lord meet... Hylden Lord knows Kain, but Kain is yet to learn more about his true enemy. Love the way they wrote these into the lore game by game.

Technically it is the first time, even with time travel. The only other time Kain fights the Hyldan lord is in BO2 which takes place 200 years later. Unless you count his fight with Raziel...but thats hardly the same as Raziel is only having his anger influenced and even then hes fighting future Kain.

Fun fact the original plot for Soul Reaver was Kain was unnabled to sacrifice himself due Nurraptor's corruption so he decided recreated Mortanious's plan using Raziel at the same manner he was used to kill the circle, to Kill himself and his brothers to restore Nosgoth again

Soul Reaver was released unifinished, hence why Raziel doesn't fight all his brothers before facing Kain. The story just gets more complicated with the Hylden and the tentacle god thing.

@@PsychoticLuke Actually, Blood Omen 2 is the sequel to Soul Reaver 2 and the prequel to Defiance. The timeline changes at the end of SR2, are the events of BO2 and the repercussions are felt in defiance.

@@frankbrown4780 close, but the other guy was right. The events of soul reaver 2 altered history to an extreme degree, leading to the events of defiance. In that game, when raziel resurrected Janos, oblivious to Kain’s warning: the Holden lord was the force that overtook him. With the pure-blooded vessel needed to open the way at the death of the pillars (& to use as a power source for their in-the-works doomsday weapon), he fled. Planting the seeds for the events of Bo2.

I always thought this too. You actually receive Mortanius' death orb which "gave him power over death" after the first fight and it's later shown that the Hylden had indeed been the ones behind Ariel's death and the corruption of the pillars, and that they could possess Mortanius. So with all that, plus the way he talks after he transforms, plus the fact the demon form looks like the ones you fought in Avernus and the ones the Hylden summon against Raziel I think it's pretty conclusive to assume that you were talking to the "Sarafan Lord" after Mortanius' first defeat.

And with any creative endeavour it should be up to the original architect to decide what is true and false in the world they created....unless they retcon something dumb like Dumbledore being gay or Hermione being black just for virtue signalling points when counter information is available in any of their works... The example I presented sounds perfect, but I wouldn't present it as fact because unfortunately the goddess known as Amy Hennig has not been able to elaborate on or continue LoK. Thusly, it's a theory, a perfectly good one, but a theory nonetheless.

@@NineBreakerUIXB Yeah. I imagine once Kain slayed the Hylden Lord here, he escaped, since his physical form was gone, BUT he had his soul, which led him to find Janos after the Pillars were destroyed due to Kain refusing to sacrificing himself, thus leading the Hylden to be free from the Binding.

Probably my favourite game series for storyline of all time. Looking at it now in 2020 I find it pretty awesome/hilarious how everyone is crying out for representation, but this entire masterpiece was written by a woman who included almost no female characters in the whole thing. Pure respect to Amy Hennig, she didn't give a fuck, she just made good shit.

Although we Were left with "hope" as the de facto ending of LoK, and people did try to support that...mmo based travesty despite it was absolutely Not what people wanted from the series, I still think it's capable of a reboot or a sequel. Despite how rarely they are done, vampire games are Very fun and everyone fucking knows it lol. And this demon being Hash'ak'gik would've been fine except through their mishandling of the plot and time travels Hash'ak'gik winds up being Turel, the brother that Raziel never got around to killing. And Turel, as Hash'ak'gik, was just a pawn of the hylden, as was mortanius to bring down the circle of 9. But now does it make any sense in this game that Kain is fighting one of his future lieutenants (Turel) which he made from a serafin who then mutated into Hash'ak'gik?

@@eduardojara6955 I don't believe the elder god and hash'ak'gik are the same person. But I could be wrong. That is what makes their attempt to tie Turrel back into the story so screwy. Turrel, as Hash' ak' gik, is what "infiltrated" the circle of nine from within. What the circle and the worshipers didn't realize was that Turrel (Hash' ak' gik') was being used by the hylden to bring down the circle of nine. Mortanius realized this, but was himself possessed by the hylden, i'm guessing through his association with Turrel. When Mortanius could regain control he "set prophecy into motion" by having Kain killed only to bring him back as a vampire and sick him on the circle, which meant himself as well. Mortanius essentially commits suicide. The issue is Turrel being Hash' ak 'gik. The creators admitted to running over on the length of the first game, which is why they left Turrel out of it. If Turrel is hash' ak' gik and Kain kills him at the end of blood omen, then how is Turrel (as a seraphin priest) in his coffin after Kain refuses the sacrifice and raids the crypt to raise his vampire lieutenants? Don't get me wrong. Love the overall story, the characters, the dialogue. But the plot is swiss cheese.

I don't know how powerful he is in terms of power compared to the rest of the circle. However, it's worth noting that Mortaneus and Moebius are the first - and therefore the oldest - Human guardians. None of the other Guardians besides Mortaneus, Moebius, and Malek were any older than 500 when they were killed, and so none of them had the kind of experience Mortaneus would have had up to his orchestrating of the Scourge

This demon is supposed to be "hash'ak'gik" or "the unspoken." But later on we learn that "hash'ak'gik" is just a mutated version of Turel who Raziel never got around to killing. And Turel was just a pawn of the hylden. They fucked up their plot, big time. But i love the whole series and forgive the plot holes.

I think the entity that the Cenobites originally called Hash'ak'gik WAS the Hylden lord manifesting through various possessions. It was Azimuth (and perhaps Mortanius, too) who the Hylden lord instructed to find for him a 'durable vessel'. "With the Time Streaming Device she had stolen from Moebius, the Guardian of the Pillar of Dimension - Azimuth - had summoned Turel from the Soul Reaver era to be utilized as an impressive, durable mouthpiece for the Cult of Hash'ak'gik. Physically unable to escape and possessed by several Hylden, Turel's voice was used to command the cult's followers. Over time, these frequent possessions resulted in his becoming increasingly deranged, *and he accepted his identity as the "god", Hash'ak'gik,* subsiding on the gory human sacrifices cast to him by his human worshippers." - Turel entry on Legacy of Kain wiki This suggests the cult already existed when Turel was 'summoned'. I'm not sure if Turel was ever possessed by the Hylden lord himself, but if he was he truly became Hash in those moments as the spiritual and physical manifestations were one.

@@cgraham6 The Hylden Lord only possessed Mortanius and nobody else (well , Janos later on) . The Hash'ak'gik entity was a collective of several Hylden but not the Hylden Lord himself. The same applies to Turel, some Hylden possessed him and speak trough him to the humans. The Hylden Lord kept the same host (Mortanius) till the end when he choose to posses a resurrected Janos and then later inhabit his own Hylden body.
