I think for a movie it's OK. We know she's the main character. So people will help her because it's her journey. Doesn't really translate to real life because people have their own lives, too. Only the people who really love us will do that. And that circle is small.

@@TheLuigiex50I understand what you’re saying, however the reason it feels so much more influential here is the fact that in almost every movie before we consistently see girls being catty or mean towards other girls. Especially at the time when legally blonde came out, be it the middle of the “not like other girls” movement which largely led girls to demonize femininity, associate it with a lack of intelligence, and generally ignore traits of themselves to adhere to a more male dominated society. A movie like legally blonde stands tall as a movie that empowers all women as intelligent, Vivian and Elle, and all her friends aswell.

I mean, that's the point of the movie. She has a high IQ, excellent logic skills, excellent problem-solving skills, top notch attention to detail, all things that make a person intellectually above average, but because she applies it to things society considers "frivolous" no one is taking her seriously. Fun fact: I'm a psychologist and for years men scored better than women on a bunch of cognitive tests until someone figured out that it was because a lot of the questions pertained to traditionally male domains that men just had more experience and confidence with. When they switched the questions to ones of equal difficulty but pertaining to traditionally female things, the results were flipped and women scored better.

As a young kid I thought Elle was silly for submitting the video, but Elle is an absolute genius. She is unbelievably proactive and academic. I was conditioned to believe gaudy people were delusional because of how movies like High School Musical portrayed Sharpay, no matter how talented she really is. Elle went above and beyond, and she was always like that before the film. It feels insulting the administration team was reluctant, even with her outstanding grades. Yes Elle is incredibly privileged and she had the support of a whole sorority while being very upper class, but I adore that as a person she was always responsible and benevolent.

She is a fashion major, which means she is very well positioned to do trademark law. She has a 4.0 at CULA, which is 4.0 in UCLA in real life. That’s a 4.0 at No.1 public university and Top 15 college in the nation. She has 179 on LSAT. Her GPA and LSAT alone could’ve carried her to the T14/15 law schools with decent scholarship offerings. And if she has impressive extracurriculars even by Harvard admission standard, she is looking at full-ride at any other law school outside of YSH. She comes from a west coast wealthy upper class family which means she doesn’t need need-based aid and has all the connections she would need to succeed in the future. That’s a perfect Harvard law admit profile there.

This scene always reminds me that people are not supposed to do what they're told to. With an impressive drive, people can be expert in the genres that they've never experienced before. The most important thing is attitude and personality. I love Elle. This is my favourite movie of all time.

It always amaized me how all her Sorority sisters helped her focus and pass the test, even tho they were all "Barbies" as well. They all really cared for each other and supported her as it should. We needed women supporting women in media at that time when another woman appearence always meant women fights.

I saw it again yesterday (I'm 27 now) and I loved how Elle proved everyone wrong while being her fabulous self. Plus, it's great that Vivian and Elle ditched Warner and became friends. I love that she starts out the main character and ends as well. She's not the nerdy, outsider type of girl who glows up and improves in look during the film but instead, she's just a popular girl who has shiny friends, all of them being about fun and lifestyle. The movie doesn't represent it as a bad thing however. It's so natural and so much normalised that you feel joy while watching girls' girls..🥺😍

The fashion major comment reminds me of my classmate in Med school who has a mass communication degree. I always remember the look of our presiding doctors faces whenever she introduces herself as a mass com graduate when we have our medical cases small group discussions. She was the only only one in our batch with a non medical pre med school course but now she's a practicing pediatrician.

Hopefully, she's not too discouraged by those looks. If I had a terminal illness, I'd want her to tell me. Many doctors can be unintentionally (and unfortunately, sometimes intentionally) crass and cold when telling a patient they only have a short time to live. Coming from a theatre background myself, I've started arguing that language really is its own skill, which I think is a reason why I stayed away from fields like medicine; it's just too "inside the box" for me.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Elle inspired me to study law. I couldn’t finish because of certain issues I had back then, but she was such an inspiration. I also looked like her in my twenties (not so pink I went for a more goth style) I’m blonde with green eyes and petite and I wasn’t taken seriously in college (I majored in English before going to law school) because of my looks, but I proved everyone wrong and I graduated with honors, getting the highest score on my thesis. A funny story. Some years ago I got a job thanks to her. We were on a group interview and the interviewer asked us the typical question “who do you admire?” Most people mentioned people like “Mother Theresa”, “The Pope” and so on. When it was my turn, I said I admired the fictional character of Elle Woods because of her drive, her intelligence and how she proved everyone wrong by excelling in everything she put her mind into. I could sense the other candidates thinking I was dumb, however, the joke was on them since I was the one who got the job in the end.😊

Honestly it’s not shocking she got into Harvard if you know the requirements of getting into an Ivy League law school. It’s not much as long as you have a good gpa and high lsat score, a fun personality and majored in a less common major it may actually help you more in that you have a fresh perspective for law school and make you stand out from other applicants. Both Yale and Harvard have recently shared their encouragement for applying to their school and not letting an lsat score or low socioeconomic background discourage you. They also have implemented more programs to help people afford to go to their school

In the scene where she slaps David after watching him get rejected by the mean girls (and I've said this in other reaction videos), my guess is that she's done this to other guys and saw it from the guy's perspective, so she helped him out because he was someone that she considered a friend. IMHO, David was too good for them.

if u r someone who is asking the question, "can a seemingly vapid valley girl who focuses on shallow issues prove she is intelligent?" then according to this movie, the answer is yes. hard work and rote memorization have more to do with learning in schools than anything else. any average person can do well as long as they make attendence, do their work, pay attention and study hard. either that or it teaches us the inherent flaws in the school systems. work ethic, reliability and social networking have more to do with getting a good job, the degree is just to get you in the door.
