The approach is what makes it so hard. You take one breath. The phrase starts on the highest note short vowel “Eh” (Then). You then have to switch to a “B” consonant (Before) without wasting air (and if you’re well-trained, vocalizing through the consonant). You get an “EE” vowel which are deceptively easier. Finally the long note is started with an un-vocalized “F” consonant (unhelpful). You then hold an “Oh” vowel for twenty minutes. You have to support it extra hard compared to the “ee” vowel that preceded it, which is why so many girls go flat. You also have to avoid the urge to include the hard “R” in “Before” during the long note, common in country and a bad habit in Musical Theatre, which can drag down the pitch. Add in the fact that the long note is the lowest note in the phrase and instinctively singers support the highest note and relax on the lower notes, and you have an extremely difficult passage.
@WhiteShadow0526 жыл бұрын
I love how much they exaggerate the length of the note. It's 11 seconds. And don't get me wrong, it is immensely difficult to perform at that pitch, especially at the end of a high energy number like that, but the exaggeration is just hilarious.

This was in 2008. I think Lena is amazing, but I was also questioning how she was cast here...ALTHOUGH- she had never had a leading role or an original role in a non-ensemble part.
