It kinda annoyed me how during the interviews they expected the girls to act exactly like Elle woods does. They’re there to act! It’s like they don’t want someone who’s talented enough to be there own person and THEN play the role. They seemed to want someone who just acted like Elle even off stage. Idk why but that bothered me😂

But having that stamina is the expectation on Broadway. Each night during a show you're going to have been at it for an hour singing/dancing/costume changes - and you still have to nail the second half of the show. So putting dancing first is a test to see who's able to do that

Framing it this way is a test to see who's able to do the job - because "continue to sing super well after already being exhausted from singing/dancing a ton" is exactly what you'll have to if you're cast, 8 times a week.

The approach is what makes it so hard. You take one breath. The phrase starts on the highest note short vowel “Eh” (Then). You then have to switch to a “B” consonant (Before) without wasting air (and if you’re well-trained, vocalizing through the consonant). You get an “EE” vowel which are deceptively easier. Finally the long note is started with an un-vocalized “F” consonant (unhelpful). You then hold an “Oh” vowel for twenty minutes. You have to support it extra hard compared to the “ee” vowel that preceded it, which is why so many girls go flat. You also have to avoid the urge to include the hard “R” in “Before” during the long note, common in country and a bad habit in Musical Theatre, which can drag down the pitch. Add in the fact that the long note is the lowest note in the phrase and instinctively singers support the highest note and relax on the lower notes, and you have an extremely difficult passage.
@WhiteShadow052
@WhiteShadow052 6 жыл бұрын
I love how much they exaggerate the length of the note. It's 11 seconds. And don't get me wrong, it is immensely difficult to perform at that pitch, especially at the end of a high energy number like that, but the exaggeration is just hilarious.

I’m not even a vocal expert but her act was the only one that didn’t sound strained/pitchy. I had it spoiled to me that Bailey was the one who won, and although she’s a great actress, If I paid hundreds of dollars for broadway tickets and got her vocals, I’d be disappointed.

AMY POTTS You’re right. Although I feel like casting directors do care if your natural blonde. I remember looking for auditions and some of the qualifications were that you had to be a natural blonde not dyed blonde. Which is kind of weird. I mean if you have blue eyes and your skin is pale and you have the talent having naturally brown hair should not affect your audition. Marilyn Monroe was a natural brunette, but she played those stereotypically dumb blonde roles. I honestly don’t know why a lot of casting directors want natural blondes. Oh and honestly eyecolor shouldn’t even matter because it’s Broadway it’s not film

REWATCHING A YEAR LATER. Yeah they definitely used shitty mics on purpose. Also entirely convinced the judges facial reactions are pulled from entirely different clips and episodes.

I hate this. Broadway isn’t a reality tv show and if casting directors in the future for other shows she this, it has potential to ruin these girls’ careers. Who would want to work with so much drama

Hi_Its_maggie actually most of the girls continued on to be on broadway. A lot of them made contacts that helped them in their career.
