Depression is not a precursor to mass shooting and assassination attempts. I have not looked into the background of the perpetrator in this case yet, but I can already tell you what will be found. Said person is more than likely a victim of some form abuse, comes from a low economic background, had a very difficult childhood, parents are either nonexistent or they enable his behavior, probable an outcast, more than likely had warning signs that had been ignored from those who could have said something, and some may have said something but had been ignored. These types of individuals often see society itself as the problem for the circumstance's life has put them in which opens the door for a pathway of finding revenge as a form of enlightenment to the answers of their problems. The issue is that when children are put in these circumstances society doesn't know what to do or how to handle the situation in a manner most beneficial for the child; simply put we don't have all the answers and the ones we do have are only band aids to a much deeper wound. Nonetheless, that is much different from someone who is depressed or may be introverted and just because someone has these diagnoses doesn't suggest that in any form, they would act out in manners like this more so than someone who isn't. Infact, we are all capable of this egregious malevolent behavior but because of our environment and circumstances in life we do not have such thoughts or able to rationalize them as those that do have these thoughts only a small percentage of people fully commit to the act.
