What I've noticed with knuckleballs is that while they may wobble on the way, they almost always break. I'm nothing close to a professional baseball player and really not even a good one, but I would think you could treat it similarly to other breaking balls rather than a pitch that is more about the lateral run with relative success. Just ignore the wobble. I suppose knowing which side it's going to break on is important to know though.

As shown in the video, the knuckler deceived and confused catchers as much or more than it did batters. Bob Uecker, who had to catch Phil Niekro, said the way to catch a knuckle ball was to let it stop rolling then walk back to pick it up.
@ghion73134 жыл бұрын
But the ball doesn't rotate at all when it moves frantically as a knuckleball. on the experiment however they allow the ball to rotate and that's y the air behind it deviates

It would "seem" that the seams have nothing to do with it since soccer balls also move crazy when struck with no spin. So there's something else going on.
@SamuelPearlman4 жыл бұрын
It's not that they have "nothing" to do with it, but they aren't the main cause, correct. The lack of spin allows for the unstable motion, whether there are seams or not.
@jln552 жыл бұрын
The hex-and pentagonal portions of a soccer ball can create their own turbulence, if the ball isn't spinning.

Sure you can. You better grow up fast then, there are only two major league pitchers who are regular knuckleballers, there's plenty of room for another.
