I can only conclude that the cast & crew were as high as kites when making this, as the film is surreal. Like others I have no idea what is going on, except it is big budget for its day.

Magnificent, lavishly imagined, visualized, (and produced). This film is supercharged, virtually bursting, with activity, costumery (LOVE those giant frogs and lizards), light effects, locale effects, etc. I think the multilayered, texturally supercharged space, especially toward the end, may have influenced a great master of the technique, and in my opinion one of the greatest film makers ever, Josef Von Sternberg.

After reading the IMDB story synopsis, this movie makes a lot more sense. I don't know why, but this version of the film was edited in an anachronistic way.
