My dad's college students recommended this game to me when they heard my sis and I liked Final Fantasy - and I'm glad they did cause so far I played through it like 4 or so times already, and loved every time. While it's also an RPG of course, it has its very own beautiful designs, music, story, characters, battles... really appreciate this gem and hope some more (re)discover the game !

It’s hands down one of the best of the PS1 series.. FF7 is amazing but in overall quality LOD is on the winning side. Both games are top tier but man.. LOD is for the record books in my opinion. the ghost data part is interesting, especially the stipulations on getting rid of it; I'm not particularly familiar with the structure of ps1 memory card data, but I'd imagine that just deleting the save data doesn't work because it's not clearing out the area and just removing the reference to it, and then the game is creating a new save file in the identical location which doesn't fully initialize the area either leaving behind the data, but then it would work by just copying any save data to the newly vacated area and deleting it or just deleting any sequentially earlier save data to change where the data is being written to, but if it doesn't work when there has ever been LoD save data anywhere on the card this implies that something else is going on. very intriguing

My suspicion is it's similar to a use-after-free. It's not using the directory block to look up the other save, it's reading past the bounds of the "current" save to data that's close enough that it can interpret it as "valid" after a fashion. A way to test it would be to make a save for some other game between the two setup saves and see what happens. Or have multiple pairs of saves and see if every second one can reproduce. It's a curious thing, though, I agree!

It "not working" when there was never a save probably just means it doesn't give you results from the previous save, because there isn't one. The video mentions that shuffling files around can change the results, probably because that overwrites the leftover "ghost" data with some other game. If nothing else, it should be enough to use a homebrew program to fully wipe the card between runs, so that each run is using a card that's like new, with no remnants of deleted files on it.

@@TheTubePoweredOne I dont necessarily disagree with you. What you said makes perfect logical sense. Even I have had media moments spoiled for me. I would think that anyone looking at things from a bygone era should inherently be aware of spoiled content. Sometimes that content itself becomes the defining moment that catapults a piece of media into the spotlight for decades, i.e: FF7 or 9. Half Life etc. Hard to find any FF7 video in the past 15 years that yields a spoiler warning.

@@Alamyst2011 Yeah, the FF7 thing in particular is something I find to be very unfortunate, to be honest. I recently got a nephew of mine to play FF7 for the first time and they had managed to completely avoid all spoilers and were subsequently totally blindsided by the ending of disc 1. Seeing it firsthand makes me really wish people *did* put up spoiler warnings even for something as ubiquitous as what happens in FF7. Hopefully one day people will realize how reductive the whole "but it came out years ago" argument is when it comes to spoilers.

I'm playing it right now. A few weeks ago I was literally at the beginning of the game in Helena Prison and there was a chest i couldnt get access to. i got on a walkthrough video and someone commented "i tried even leveling CENSORED up to 99 and there was no way to prevent CENSORED from dying". he legit ruined the game for me and i left a pretty nasty comment back to him.

It completely butchered the flow of the original, regarding the story, atmosphere, actual events, difficulty, wonder, sense of adventure, exploration, characters growth, mystery, feel, and this overall Gameplay. It's garbage, and only good for people who haven't played ff7 in full, regardless of nostalgia, to compare it to. Resident evil 1 remake? Now THATS the best remake in the world, hands down. Remakes on the last however many years are garbage, my dude. Even RE2 is butchered mess. These days, we should opt for a REMASTER. Not a remake.

I attempted the New Game+ glitch once, and when the game loaded up, I was on the world map on the east side of Seles... the side that's impossible to reach. I thought I was trapped, but I was able to enter Seles... then the sequence where Dart runs over the hill played through, but when I entered the area where Dart roles down the hill... the role animation didn't happen, and I got trapped off screen... -_-

Awesome to hear about the speed run of this gem. I'll have to check some out. I love(d) playing it. Biggest problem I had with the game is that my disc's would fail on me. And it was always at the same time: Right after the water Wingly and Dragon fight. (On disc 2. When you win the fight Meru gets her Dragoon stone.) The cut-scene would play, fade to black then stay black... forever... some rare times it would work. But oh man that fight. Side note: Playing on a PS2.

Try doing the fight without using Dragoon. It shouldn't freeze then. This is a common issue when playing on a PS2, the game will freeze after certain fights (Lenus 2 being one of them) if you use Dragoon.

I had that same issue, but for some reason, it wasn't a problem when I played the game on a slim silver ps2 rather than a slim black ps2.

Legend of Dragoon is the single best RPG ever made. Always engaging, awesome story, everyone achieves resolution, it's an entire package. A game that needs no sequel or prequel, the story is complete. It's one of the games I hope gets a remaster or HD version, something to bring it's cult status to the masses... At the same time though, I don't want them to mess anything up with it like they do with remakes nowadays. A straight port would suffice like they had on PS3.

When I was a kid I accidentally overwrote my end game save with a new game save, and panicked and turned off my console mid save. Imagine my surprise when I looked back in and saw my end game party at the start of the game. Funny to learn all these years later that this is now a technique used in Speedrunning.

I love Legend of Dragoon, and recently I tried to get back to it. But... this game is SO SLOW. The menu's, the inputs, the game itself. I would love to get a remaster of this that... kind of speeds up menu inputs, and text and stuff. That said... wow, this is an absurd find.
