Watching this in 2019. I just wanted to say this is IMO one of the best games I've played this decade. This genre is woefully under served, and more people ought to give this kind of game, specifically THIS game a try.
@uba754 Жыл бұрын
I got sick about 2 weeks ago and for some reason my brain was like "how about that game you bought 8 years ago?" completely randomly. Played a ton of RPG's but never really any in this particular genre. For some reason I quickly got hooked and couldn't put it down until it was done. Great game that I recommend to anyone looking for a new (old?) type of RPG experience.

Cool to see the genre revived in a good way..but I remember as a kid when these started taking off like Eye of the Beholder..and I just didn't like how i couldn't see my guys and the fact the combat was real time..I sucked big time and couldn't get my fingers to move fast enough. Good to see this game seems to be a success though.

I'm having alot of fun with this game. The only thing I don't really like is that when you kill a monster with a trap, or some other trickery, you don't get any xp. It's true that you didn't really kill it, but I think the game should encourage the player to fight in inventive ways.

I wonder if they would ever consider making a spin off game where you follow in the footsteps of Toorum as he tours the Temples of Nex as a sort of prequel to him ending up in Grimrock. It's nearly impossible to know what the ending of that narrative would be, considering Toorum never really elaborates on why he was alone in Grimrock in the first place. He sounds like some sort of adventurer, the way he references his travels and visits to the Temples of Nex. At the same time, in a note you find beside his remains, it almost sounds like he alludes to a relationship between him and potentially the keepers of Grimrock, if not the architects themselves. I'm referring to his statement regarding how, and I'm paraphrasing here, *I hear their words beyond the walls, my intentions for coming here were not what they thought*. There's just so much we don't know about his story with so many details we can only grasp at that the narrative of a Toorum prequel is entirely intriguing to me. Another prequel idea could be the "World of Grimrock" where they create an old world setting that vastly predates the first two games-- complete with all sorts of references to the unique items found in the first two games.

I really liked this review. It was well put together, especially the end where you compare this game to other similar games. My only complaint is the images you used for the comparison games are too small and it is difficult to read the titles because of the font they use. All in all well done. I have little interest in this type of game, but even after discovering my disinterest I still watched the rest of the review. That has to say something about your presentation.

I have to say as a fan of the dungeon crawling RPG genre Grimmrock did Might and Magic better than Might and Magic 10 did. LoG2 is amazing MMX is still good but LoG2 is so much better. Some of the puzzles in LoG2 made me feel so stupid sometimes but it was great getting through them. Oh and the lesser resources needed to play LoG2 is so amazing. You could play LoG 2 on a potato I had to use my friends PC to play MMX but LoG2 runs great on my extremely outdated PC.

this looks pretty sweet, what is the restoration system? like, is health limited, can restores be bought? is it enemy drop only
@TerraMantis10 жыл бұрын
There is no health regeneration over time, but you can hit the 'R' key to rest and your team will rapidly gain their health back. During this resting phase though your team will become hungry and the longer you sleep/rest to regen HP the more you'll have to feed them to keep them from starving to death. Food is obtained from killing various wildlife and enemies. Also, if a member of your group dies; they're dead. The only way to bring a member back to life is with a special, high-level potion or by going to one of the game's giant blue crystals spread across the environments that also acts as a checkpoint/save system.

You forgot to mention some important negative aspects of the game: 1. no unarmed combat (it was in LoG 1) 2. mages can't enchant arrows (with fire, ice etc) anymore, for your archer. 3. spells have nice animations but feel underpowered most of the time (like the shower fireball spell that can't kill anything high creature from one charge, although your mage shoots fire like a gun nest). 4. not that much variety of elemental enemies (go with an ice mage and you are fucked since most of the enemy casters are ice floating elementals and you only have 3 fire floating elementals summoned by the final boss). 5. you go on a 2 handed weapon + shield ; dualwielding light weapons; gun/crossbow/bow/throwing weapons style to get the best talents...but that is it. So dagger mastery, 2h + 1h weapon, 1 h light weapon/dagger + throwing etc. are impossible/poor combat style choices . 6. battle mage class is retarded because of many gameplay reasons. 7. more endgame armor sets would had been nice (2 wizards for example is a stupid move if you are playing a high difficulty ). Yet I still give this game a 8-9 out of 10

I want to play this so bad. But, I don't think my laptop would run it. I still need to play Divinity Original Sin. My laptop would probably run that at least. It can run Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2. It also ran Bioshock, but not very well.
@TerraMantis10 жыл бұрын
I go between this and Divinity being my favorite games of the year so far. It's hard to say, they're both really excellent. Funny when you consider they both released at under $40 brand new and I've put more time into both of them than most Triple A titles this year. But yeah, you can't go wrong with either game if you're into their respected genre.
@gaminhard692310 жыл бұрын
TerraMantis I'm really holding out hope that they are going to bring Divinity: Original Sin to consoles. I know the developer said they were interested in doing so. I just have a really basic $400 Toshiba Satellite laptop. So even when I do play games on it they have to remain on pretty low settings. I'm a broke ass college student with a part time job so I can't afford to get a decent PC. I took my laptop to a computer repair/upgrade place and they told that my most of the components on my laptop cannot be upgraded. Graphics card for example is proprietary. Dark Souls II is still my game of the year so far. Especially with all the DLC. If you sit back and look at the game as a complete package it's really quite amazing even with it's flaws. Shadow of Mordor has been pretty great also. I love the Batman Arkham style combat. The game has some problems with repetition but they aren't extreme ones like with Destiny. Shadow of Mordor actually really begins to shine during it's second half when you get to the second area of the game. The level design becomes really good and each stronghold looks really unique. The second area is so gorgeous and well designed, it almost feels like it was an entirely different team of environment artists and level designers working on it. Plus once you get all abilities and upgrades unlocked, you have a pretty amazing variety of approaches to combat. That game is really good. I've also spent a TON of time with Rogue Legacy and Don't Starve this year. But, those games have been out on PC for a while. South Park is pretty good too although I've still yet to finish it. All things considered it's been a pretty light year thus far for console gamers. This time last year there had already been so many great releases. The year isn't over yet of course. I'm looking forward to picking up The Evil Within as soon as I can afford to. I'll also probably get Dragon Age: Inquisition, Lords of the Fallen and Far Cry 4. But, my most anticipated titles come early next year. BLOODBORNE !!!!!! and the Witcher 3 looks really cool also.
@TerraMantis10 жыл бұрын
GAMIN HARD I used to be a in the same boat. Luckily my Pap Pap who kinda likes me split a gaming PC with me a few years ago that's still running quite fantastically. I was unbelievably broke back then. Anywho, yeah, I'm right there with you. I think Dark Souls 2 is overall a fantastic game and that's not me being a fanboy (because I am), it's my objective opinion. Regardless of it disappointing people, in the realm of the gaming industry it's a superb Action RPG. Just because people don't like it as much as the original doesn't mean it's not one of the best freaking RPGs that's been released in years. I haven't played Shadow of Mordor although I must admit it looks extremely interesting to me. I heard the saying "Thinking-man's Assassin Creed" and that sounds like something I might really enjoy. I really do want to play it. As far as titles to look forward to, Lords of the Fallen is like 10 days out and Dragon Age only 30 days away as well. I'll definitely be playing both of those. The turn of the year is bringing a lot of interesting titles as well. I think over the next 6 months is finally going to be the time that having next-gen consoles is actually worth a damn. At least for an RPG fanatic like myself. BLOOOOOOODBOOOOORRRRRNE

If you aren't sure, the specs are on the steam page. I don't think they are too demanding. This is the only scenario I would recommend torrenting the game to see how well it runs, then buy it accordingly to support the devs

@TerraMantis10 жыл бұрын
Honestly you can usually find the first LoG for like $3 or less when it's on sale at GoG or Steam. It's definitely worth a buy, BUT it's not necessary whatsoever to have played the original to jump into the second game. Some stuff does start to connect between the two games toward the end of Grimrock 2 but it's not critical to the story or anything like that to have played the first.
@MisterBrimm10 жыл бұрын
Playing the first will make the second one easier for you, you'll have an intuition of what to generally look for and how to deal with certain scenarios.
