@@44r0n-9 To be fair, Korra lost her Earth, Fire, and Water-bending in S1. In S3, she lost, her Earth, Fire, Water, AND Air-bending, as well as her ability to walk. For someone who defines herself as a fighter and a protector, S3 Finale and early S4 was even lower than S1 Finale, especially since she couldn't rely on her previous incarnations to help her this time.

@@veggiesnake4430As I like to point out, Korra was destroyed mentally (S1), Spiritually (S2) and then Physically (S3), season 4 was about her overcoming depression and rebuilding herself as a different person altogether, the avatar the world thinks it doesn't need but the one that is there for them anyways.

Aang never wanted to be the Avatar, but he was forced to grow up and take the role for the good of the world. Korra loved the idea of being the Avatar and wanted to do it so badly, but was struck down at every turn. Everyone kept saying she was not needed, no one respected her and every other person wanted to kill her. That's some tragic stuff man. They literally broke her down... 😢

Yeah its two very different worlds they came into, Aang was desperately needed and the people had big emotions for him. For Korra there wasn't a big call for her so shes just kind of this vague figure for most people.

I believe somewhere in the lore it states that avatars are born opposite of the last one. Aang didn't want to be avatar, korra did. Aang was passive as korra was aggressive. Aang mastered air easily and took over 100 years to master the other elements while korra mastered earth, fire and water easily and struggled with air. Its all opposite.

The episodes with Toph always make me cry because she gets the answer to her question from ALTA. She asked if Aang thought friendships could last multiple life times. We saw with Aang that was true because Monk Gyatso was friends with Avatar Ruko and helped raise Aang. In this series we get to see all of the gaang except Sokka continue to have meaningful connections with Korra.

Korra Alone is one of my favorite episodes of not just the Avatar universe, but any show out there. How it handles depression, PTSD, Korra trying to heal but it just not working, her finally getting somewhat better physically but still being haunted mentally... Rarely have I felt for any show what I feel when watching this episode. Korra's entire arc in season 4 is some of my favorite storytelling ever.

Pretty sure Korra cries at the end of S3 because the air benders are saying they’ll take up the mantle and maintain the balance of the world in the avatars absence and Korra is realizing that she’s not needed anymore, which is something all the villains she’s faced have told her.

For Korra to deny her identity as the avatar is pretty jarring, especially if you consider how much she prides herself being the avatar. Her very first line of the series is. "I'm the avatar. You have to deal with it" Imagine how much it broke her to even deny who she was, something she was so proud of ever since she was a kid.

Just so you’re aware. The remembrances episode was not planned by the writers of the show. Instead of that they were planning an episode to explain Kuvira as a character but around that point Nickelodeon was reducing their funds for the show and hit them with an ultimatum. The recap episode was a way to prevent anyone on the producing team from getting fired.

15:01 I remember watching this first years ago and feeling so horrible for Korra, unable to imagine the pain she must have been going through in her physical recovery. Then I watched LoK again after I had major back surgery after I lost feeling below my waist and it *hurt* how much I related to the experience of watching Korra learn to walk again. I did the same exercises that she did in this show and then some. It took me about three months to relearn how to walk and stand properly. Now, almost three years after my surgery, I still can't feel about half of my right leg, I can't run because some of the muscles in my feet don't support me well enough for it, I can't spread my last two toes on my right foot because the nerve connecting there was the most damaged. Only after watching LoK again after all of this, I related to her struggle on such a deeper level because I lived it ❤

The point you brought up about Kuvira getting engaged to Batar Jr. is actually pretty valid. Personally I think it's s bit of BOTH. I think Kuvira genuinely loves Su completely and she does indeed want the Earth Kingdom to flourish and thrive. I think she does indeed love Batar Jr. as well, but she's also deeply in support of "The Greater Good" that she will indeed choose IT over loved ones. She's willing to become the villain if she can attain peace for everyone else.

Yeah she's very much an extremist whose ideals get corrupted and lost in her resoluteness. When you consider Kuvira's confident intimidating demeanor, it's not that much of a stretch to believe the SHE had bandits attack Kai and Opal. I mean unlike typical bandits, who would have been sloppy and violent, they went straight for the supplies, almost ignoring the Airbenders entirely. It was too well organized for common bandits. At least it seemed like it to me.

Earth bending is considered to be the furthest from the spiritual type bending. So I love the fact that Toph's mastery of Earth bending (in doing so, inventing metal bending) allows her to listen to the vines - which is not an Earth thing, but it is energy - and become more spiritual as an Earth bender.

Korra alone left me crying when I first saw it. I had a heavy spine surgery at 14 and the aftermath of it left me with chronic backpain. I've had that pain for about 8 years now and the first years it was a lot worse than it is now. Wanting to do things when your body doesn't let you is a horrible feeling. Trying all you can but it still not doing quite enough is devastating. You start to mourn your life before the pain. And it's so hard to face old friends again, because you can see that they all continued their lives while yours stood still. Seeing this episode really hit home. Especially since the time skip of 3 years is exactly how long it took for me to kind of get my life started back up again. Also her frustrated outburst against Katara is so relatable, followed by the immediate apology because it's not Katara's fault, but the frustration just needed to be let out cause it's been building up.

Another thing to add to that perspective is that at the ceremony Tenzin aknowledges that the air nation now will take the Avatars spot as the protectors of the world while Korra is recovering. Which I assume in Korras ears rings as "you are being replaced because you are not good enough anymore". That I think is something that interferes with her whole identity of being the avatar, the saviour and protector of the world, while being pushed around in a wheelchair.

Korra season 4 has such a special and significant place in my heart. I had a stroke at age 24 that left me unable to do anything by myself, walk, speak, eat, write, think.... often I thought I survive but at what cost? I re-watched these episodes in the middle of my rehabilitation and I can't explain how connected I felt with Korra, I went from being an active, smart, happy-go-lucky woman to a shell of a person. But however sad it was, the experience was a learning process as well... I didn't know how much of a hyper-independent person I was, needing help and having no other choice but to rely on people was HORRIBLE, and such a mix of emotions as well, i felt eternally grateful but ashamed, i felt loved but i was so angry at myself and my body. I'm happy to have made an almost full recovery but the consequences are there and they'll be there forever. Every single emotion that Korra was feeling, I felt it as well. I loooove how realistic it was.

I'm happy that you've started Season 4 (I know you're ahead on Patreon) and I'm excited to see you react to the remainder of the Season. Bit of a fun fact, Kuvira is voiced by Robin Williams's daughter Zelda, and it's really kinda her first major role in anything. Maybe it's just cool to me cause I'm a big Robin Williams fan and a big Legend of Zelda fan (which she is named after), but still. I was excited to see Toph too when I watched the show when it was first airing, especially since I was under the impression that she was dead prior to that. As far as the dog "seeing" the spirit, it's not just that specific dog, it's believed that in general dogs and some other animals are able to sense different energies and changes in surroundings and things like that, even before humans are able to. There's many stories of animals sensing things like sicknesses and pregnancies and such in humans even before the humans themselves know about it. It's also why Paranormal Investigators will sometimes bring dogs with them during investigations, because the dogs can pick up on things that humans or their machines may not be able to. It's good that you're wrapping the series up soon (or probably already have it wrapped up on Patreon), because we have the live-action ATLA remake coming to Netflix in February, as well as other shows and movies set in the Universe coming out over the next few years.

She was also trained from infancy to be the Avatar. In season one she has already had a decade of training and having a chip on her shoulder as the new Avatar

@@amellowblue Yea, she had already figured out 3/4th of the elements by the time she was FOUR. Bending is like breathing to Korra. It's just a natural part of who she is.

Plus despite being gifted as a physical bender doesn't help as much as you'd think when the worlds issues have more of a political spin.
@ieyke

@@9TrixieTurner6 Exactly. And that's why season 1 and season 4 are the best seasons. They're both complicated political diplomatic catastrophes that Korra is ill-equipped to handle. Especially in season 1, where she's completely in over her head, it doesn't matter that she's the most powerful bender in the entire history of the franchise, because her bending only makes things worse.

4x02 episode is tremendously worth showing how actually hard to handle mental health problems like PTSD is. You could kick spirits, and villains and do some great things, but you would get some scars, and your mind can be damaged even more than a physical condition. And people tend to underestimate how hard could be to recover and how long it could actually take to get well after all. It could be hard even if the whole world respects you for what are you doing. If you fail and be abandoned by everyone... It's hard to imagine how traumatic it is, but it happens from time to time.

Korra always got into my feelings but this year I had to go through a severe medical syndrome and I had to learn to walk again. Im lifting weights again such as Korra is fighting again but the mental healing is another deal.

I love this show, and Korra's struggles with her mental health in S4 are a big part of that. Seasons 3 and 4 really raised the bar on storytelling.

Aang going from not really wanting to be the Avatar to doing what needs to be done and Korra being so headstrong about being the Avatar only to find out that there’s much more than just fighting and shit is probably my favorite thing.

While I love the original series, I like Korra even more... though I respect that Korra could not have been the awesome show it was if it didn't have the original series as a foundation. I think Korra is just such a well written character and her character arc over these four seasons is outstanding.
