There are 2 possibilities: The world if the mist never existed. Vahn's journey to becoming a hunter involved him slaying a beast on his own, with the ritual gold paint signifying his trial, and this is the beginning. Seru Kai was saved from Songi because the heroes stopped him before anything bad could happen, then slayed Cort and saved the world. And I guess they dunked him in a vat of mustard as a prank?
