This was the game that introduced the concept of level grinding to me, unlike final fantasy if you just run through all the areas fighting whatever gets in your way without stopping to grow a few levels the bosses would completely slaughter you.

I had a setup that allowed me to cast knights of the round 8 times, had enough time to eat dinner and grab sandwiches before thte entire casting finished, it lived. it would not die :\ I didn't want to get the underwater materia and I failed because of it. It killed us before time ran out anyway. FF7 may not have been as grindy but Xenogears required some grind to make it

Oh god I know I did manage ruby weapon and never got around to beating emerald(made alot of attempts though XD), but I was actually talking about non optional bosses, I don't remember ever having to grind levels to beat the main story in a FF game but I haven't played all of them.

Sometimes, a boss theme just makes you just want to punch the shit out of something. Legaia was great about that. I mean, not really great about anything else associated with it, but it can definitely lay claim to that one thing.

You must not have played any of the older final fantasies. Try beating emerald and ruby weapon in FF7 by just running through it. I dare you XD
