I am from Barbados and that food looks great, but I can guarantee the average Bajan is NOT paying $55USD for that food. LOL Many other places in Barbados you can get way better food from at an actual "street food price" but the draw to Oistins is the fresh fish. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for showcasing an important part of our food culture

Good early morning David. It's now 6:40 a.m here in Toronto Canada and I am salivating over all the fish dishes all three of you ate. I can eat anyone of them. The fish looked very delicious and cooked so fast. The macaroni pie and the salad were a surprise accompaniment to the fish, something I wouldn't have thought of. Since Craig is part Trini (through his mom), I think we will forgive you for jokingly saying "better than Trini mac pie". They are all tasty depending on the type of and the amount of cheese used. Some people put egg in their mac pie and some don't. That one doesn't look like it has egg in it. That fish monger skinned the fish in a way I have never seen before. Even big time chefs filet the fish by sliding the knife along to cut it. I always wondered why you didn't drink rum and coke and after hearing you say that you don't drink coke I get it. Smart. I love this Bajan series because it was simply done. Hope to see when it's busy with the music. Another good one David. And to Craig and Nerissa: you both are so humble and you both let David do his thing. Well done. David, you should have dipped your toes in the Atlantic ocean, hahaha, just for fun. And now on to the next one. Kudos everyone 🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦❤️

If I wanted to hear that I will throw a cd in the stereo. The wait time was 2 hours to get served, then we had to stand to eat because there was nowhere to sit. @@gailspinks1 no. I am not.. if you do some history of the flying fish and where they came from, you will know. it is ok to say Barbados is the land of the flying fish because every country is known for something, and we all accept that .
@gailspinks12 жыл бұрын
@@nphipps9406 yeh u on jokes...because you say it so don't make it so. I don t like to school people cause i like jokes but here we go.... flying fish is a migratory fish that spawns in the waters between Barbados and Tobago. It's presence in both waters is seasonal. The demand for it increased drastically in the 80s after Bajans went to Tobago Trinidad and a couple of other Caribbean countries and taught fisher folks how to clean and filled the fish. It was seen prior as a nuisance fish and used largely for bait. No one to this day eat as much flying fish as Bajans. The preference was for the bigger fish eg king fish. Lots of things led to the scarcity of this fish. The demand for Caribbean fish inclusive of flying gish grew among expats in north America and England led to a large export market and rise of fishery companies. Trawling by Japanese and Asian boats removing everything out of the sea and damaging spawning beds and habitats and of course sea level rise and warming leading to invasive species which threaten habitats..etc... fish ain't belong to no country only the sea.
