Why did not I have the dialogue with Harris about not compromising him?

I have to know what made Garrus so popular, like I love him too but I don't get what made them flash him out more in ME2, I assume it had to be something with being a favourite but he was kind of bland in terms of personality in ME1, atleast imo, in ME2 they flash him out more with personality and in ME3 he is the best but what made them flash him in ME2? like they could toss him out like Liara and Kaidan/Ashley or have him join later like Tali

I too am not actually sure what specifically made him so popular in ME1 - the signature Garrus voice wasn't even perfected until ME2 - but I think there's a good reason why he specifically wasn't thrown out like the Virmire Survivor and Wrex: Because he was a guaranteed survivor like Tali and Liara (Why Liara was also removed is another question) and as the game is split into 4 Dossiers at the start of the game and 4 at the halfway point I think it was pertinent that one of the first 4 be an Original Crewmate to have a familar face early on - this is why he's on Omega with Mordin (who's supposed to be your first recruit discounting Zaeed) Also worth noting he didn't receive particularly special treatment compared to Tali and the other ME2 squadmates, ME2 just fleshes all of the squadmates out that well. (Again, discounting Zaeed and Kasumi)

@@ParadoxicWasHere I get it, i don't have complaints but like, they could have made him unavailable like, Liara goes to the be information broker so she is unavailable, Wrex goes to unite the clans so he is unavailable, with Garrus according to your dialoug choices in ME1 could have been a Spectre or the C-Sec executor and thus too be unavailable, one could argue that it would have been more natural than Liara the awkward scientist going to be semi-badass information broker. But again no complaints and again he is the best of the best in ME3 for romance and bromance

As I recall, the community found alien squadmates very interesting, far more interesting than human ones. Also, Garrus might be still rather young and naive in ME1, but he already showed his signature wit and humor. The fanbase responded to Garrus and Wrex extremely positively. A lot of people romanced Liara. In ME1 everyone is kind of bland, honestly. But Garrus' VA made Garrus awesome. Plenty of people in the fanbase were thirsting lol. Bioware listened to people's comments and made Garrus romanceable. Also, I believe that in one of the Q&As one of the writers had the idea of Garrus being Shepard's protegé and wanted to explore that plotline further in the future games. And it's pretty much exactly what happened. And we love it
