Kurfurst is really inaccurate at its max range, and you shouldn't be shooting targets at that range anyways. So the range reduction only really affects idiots who try to play Kurfurst as a sniper bb sitting in the back of the map.

"Losing the range on your guns is a big downside" I'd have to disagree. Trying to snipe at targets over 16.0km in a German BB isn't the most effective. Germans are known for being the worst long rage ships in the game. I don't see this as that big of a deal. 19.0km is still a pretty good range. Besides random RNG, You're not gonna be doing a ton with it. I'd much rather have much better secondaries if I had to sacrifice 9% 16% or even 25% if that meant the secondaries were that much better.

Having the gun range does not mean you have to stay at that range, it gives you the opportunity to shoot targets at long range if needed.

I like the Massachusetts more than the Alabama despite the Mass having nearly 3 km less gun range. But occasionally it would be nice to have the range to get a lucky shot at a target at the other end of the map. I wouldn't say it's a big downside or that it isn't worth it. But recently it's more likely having to shoot at long range at enemies running away than being able to effectively use the secondaries.

He was playing with strats, not tanking, since there were only like three ships (well two if both DD's count as a cruiser). so retreating is better in that situation

I agree. Once he took that 17,000 damage from the Yamato and then he thought it was a bad build I though, what build would have prevented that 17k? I know if he was bow on at that same range he would have been less likely to take that much damage.

Any build that allows him to stay at further distances or be safe, like range and concealment. Both of which he had to give up to take the secondary Upgrade. (Captain & Module). And finally Kurfürst, like all of their bbs i famous for its bad accuracy and bad AP pen. Instead it has huge survivability, seen by no citadel and HE resistance. Though it still eats a lot of AP pen on superstructure from BBs when he tries to shoot all his guns. The way it is supposed to be played is as a huge tank. Living is the main goal, just by beeing present you give your team, cruisers to be exact the freedom to win the game, as noone will push into you. That is how you win games in Kurfürst. By taking the legendary your impact is less, since you need to be front guy, cannot disengage (concealment and lack of range), so it is a full commitment dead end push you sign for. Does this explain the connection of taking 17k and forgetting the module?

Jaroslaw Krassowizkij Correction: if you can fire all of your guns in GK, most of the enemy battleships can pen your hull with little chance of bouncing, which is why he took that damage from the Yamato. (Since the Yamato DID hit his hull, after all, not the superstructure.) The superstructure can take a lot of damage from enemy battleships from basically any angle, at least when it isn’t damage saturated.

My buddy consistently does 200k-280k in his Kurfürst with legendary mod. It’s a brawler not a sniper.. trying to snipe with it at max range whole game isn’t what the ship is meant for.

I've been noticing recently that when you show your builds, many of your captains have a 2/1/1/3 skill loadout (for the 1-, 2-, 3- and 4- point levels, respectively). I've been primarily using a 1/2/2/2 template. I wonder if you'd consider a video discussing the merits of where to spend your captain skill points to 'get the most bang for your buck'?

That was one of the rare battles I've seen where the BBs were getting sunk during the course of the battle, and not just at the end. Frankly, I think there are still too many BBs. In the "real world" there'd be far more cruisers and destroyers than battleships in any given fleet or task force. Yes, I know ... this is just a game, so I don't take it (the game) seriously. But if I'd were to ask anything of Wargaming, it would be to limit the number of BBs to three per side, with the rest of the ships being cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers.

in the real world if a 16" gun round were to hit dd's or cruisers, they wouldn't be in very good shape. there were reports of destroyers in ww1 sustainingheavy damage just from the explosion of water that shot up from a missed round from 15" guns.

I run this mod and noticed higher damage output. That DPM increase was well worth losing max range that was only good for start of game pot shots.

this is the exact same build i have on my tirp and bismark! I love to drop my detection to 12.3km and have that 11.3km secondaries for any kind of encounters. But the tier 9 FDer made me stop playing this lane, and i dont know when could i get the GK:(

As a Kurfurst main I find concealment buffs to be largely useless. At best you can bring your visibility down to only being visible from orbit. All secondaries or nothing. Mansec, BFT, AFT, and IFHE to get damage out of the 128s. Preventative Maint to keep the secondaries alive, and Adrenal Rush to get even more dakka out of your primaries and secondaries as your ship gets damaged. Between Adrenaline and the Legendary, you can get those 420mms down to a terrifying 22 second reload. The Kurfurst's survivability alleviates its horrendous visibility and lack of maneuverability, large areas of the ship are covered with 50mm plate that will shatter light cruiser and DD HE, the hitpoint pool is the best you'll find, the Citadel is nigh untouchable, and the Hydro and plane somewhat helps avert total catastrophe when stealth torpedoes enter the equation.

Nice video Notser! I share your ideas on the tactics and the use of our GK. Question though. Would it be an interresting build if we swap the consealment module for the target acquisition module? Because we tend to get close to support our DD's, we become torpedo magnets. with an aditional 20% warning gives us about 5-6 secs extra warning for the stealthiest of torps.

The Kurfurst was my first T10 ship. I enjoyed her a lot at first (the German BB's were still relatively new then). In the current meta though, I have been finding it more necessary to abandon the secondary build and focus on fire prevention, concealment, and main guns. Concealment to get in close so that the guns can actually hit something, fire prevention because anymore these days, I spend most of the match on fire. Yes this was a good match, but on average, is a secondary build on this ship really a viable option? Or just a fun option? Once I'm spotted, I find that at T10, most enemies stay outside of 11km from me, and if they are within that range, they are hiding behind islands hoping I will sail in close enough to eat full torp salvo.

A secondary Kurfürst (wich is the fun one anyways) feels best at around 9-11km from the enemy ... and at that range even german dispersion doesn´t matter anymore ... 12 shells in the air and you WILL hit and hurt them. Though i do think the 406mm are better suited to this with the shorter reload.

I have to disagree on the range. I don't see it as a problem, that -7% of main turret traverse however I DO see as a problem. I have the legendary mod too, and the traverse really gimps my ability to go in knife fighting.

Notser, in the game you showed, you did not use your mains on cooldown to justify the 15% reduced reload on your mains. Admittedly, you have faster secondaries as if you used the normal main battery module, but still, if you used the faster secondary module you would have had better secondaries while maintaining primary range and turret traverse. Still need someone to show me the real reason why i should care for the rare module on GK.

As an Axis main, I can say that tier 9 and 10 are pretty good for the German line. Granted, Friedrich de Grosse feels like a sidegrade from the Bismarck. But you have those 16 or 16.5 inch guns which do a LOT better against the cruisers at this tier. Most cruisers have that 27 inch bow and stern, which bounce 15 inch shells. Keep playing, please.

Who doesn't love the GK? I think the range thing might be annoying but you never really use that range in the Germans, and even if you do you will not get that much damage with low accuracy and low penetration.

Not impressed. All you do is killsteal or kill ships so low on health they're already dead. Hell, I've done over 50% more dmg than this without sinking a ship, still we won.

I don't see at all where the Legendary mod helped you. Instead, because you were mostly sniping at targets and stealing kills a Montana would have done a better job. Your secondaries were rather pointless in that match. Instead, all this video showed was that the Legendary mod actually hurt you more than helped you. It triggered you to push in too far before the enemies were spotted just to get shot to help your DD's. Then you had to run away to gain range and your turret traverse almost prevented your guns from getting shots while turning out. Then, once you disengaged you could no longer get shots on other targets without a spotter plane, which is all but worthless on the GK anyway. You didn't use the GK armor. You barely used secondaries at all. The reload only helped you kill steal targets that were already dead from other players. Worse yet, because you are using the smaller guns you are losing out on the main benefit of better reload, which is to do a lot more damage.

i dont find that the 420 guns make sit intimidating at all ...most dd are potatoes and have no clue ...and Potatoes also means Brave by stupidity and get close and gets lucky torps in and GK has a Planet size turn radius so will attract every torp there is on the map..and Then GET HE spammed focused fire because its bigger then the Yammy you cant miss it....GK avg damage has dropped by 10 k this year on the NA server..it sits on 82 k the second lowest t 10 bb on the game only the Montana get lower ..the REP and Conq Beats it by 20 k thats a lot ..the Conq has better AVG damage at 101 k then Both tier 10 CV ...Something wrong there ... you can get those stats with ..the Android APP called Assist play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.half.wowsca&hl=en_US

I’ve gone back and forth on the 420s. Seems like I get more shatters and bounces than with the 406s. Nothing scientific, just something I’ve noticed.

420's has better characteristics suited for longer range engagements, heavier shell (similar to Montana), less loss of speed (less travel time thus less resction time) are more helpful when you fight over 13km. However, below that range, 406's are better because, faster reload, lower penetration(means more pen than overpen) can get off the shells quicker in a brawl when you need them. Thus if you are using legendary, using 406's will be more advantageous than 420's, which are better suited for standart BB engagements.
