Am surprised at how many of you kind folk have watched the Podcast. If you are interested in more of my life - warts and all😀 I wrote my Autobiography in 2003 and more recently recorded it as a Podcast which is on Apple, Spotify and other channels. Thank you very much for your kind comments.

Hello Jan, I have so many fond memories as a young boy seeing you read the news on the BBC growing up in England. I read your autobiography about 20 years ago which was brilliant. I was interested to read that you were one of the first women newsreaders on Australian television. I now live in Sydney, Australia but this excellent interview brings back so many memories.

This was a fascinating and illuminating podcast Jan; it is inordinately refreshing to watch and listen to someone who was not only in the public eye for so long, not least because you come across as being so refreshing and unpretentious! You have that almost undefinable quality that many people aspire to but so few possess - true class!

I remember Jan Leeming in her youth when she read the news but I cannot believe this lovely lady is now 82 - she looks at least 20 years younger! She’s so graceful ,eloquent and charming and my goodness, how honest! I can’t say I think the interviewers or the setting are befitting for an intimate conversation such as this one- there is Jan perched on a high, uncomfortable looking stool - where’s the nice sofa and a drink? The fact that she’s been single for so long is probably why she looks so marvellous!!

Watching from Australia and a long admirer of Jan. Lovely energy and a good heart. Also an empath which is a target for the dreaded Narcissist. Wish I had thicker skin to navigate the disappointments of life. We all live in hope of finding that special someone even if fiercely independent as I am in my 60's. A good relationship is so life enhancing and as Jan says as we age the companionship is so important as we have time and perhaps the funds to enjoy life, travel etc.

Thank you. I don't NEED a man as someone suggested - and certainly not financially - always have been financially independent and invariably I was the one who had a home into which my man moved. It would be good to have a companion so that I could plan holidays and trips to the theatre etc.

@@janleeming6800 The word "need" is interpreted differently these days in the dating world. Many men like to feel "needed", but this can be in quite trivial ways. Maybe just to change light bulbs in the house or hold doors open or fix the car :) The ladies might interpret "need" as in survival, whether that is financial or emotional. One of the biggest barriers in dating, is correctly understanding what the other person is really seeking, although a lovely empath such as yourself is well predisposed to understand and listen :)

I’ve never met the lady and so am speaking theoretically. Perhaps someone can appear to be one thing and can maintain that charade for a long period of time but, eventually, the true self will prevail. Perhaps someone can have a pub lit personae but be very different in private. That could apply to both men and women. Does a man or women get married thinking or knowing that they will not be faithful? Is there something in the marriage that causes the man or women to break their vows?

Which ever its not easy at our time of life. Stay safe. J

Having worked with 300 + females for 35 years. One recurring theme re female relationships? Money and attracted to the bad boy. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard females say 'he was too nice' for a reason to go back to the guy who'd treated them badly. My ex wife left me with our disabled son 35 years ago. The guy walked out on his wife and 3 small children. I've dated 2 women since. Both left for men with money. One even asked if she could still see me. I've not bothered since.

So sorry to hear your sad tale. I can honestly say that I have never been a gold digger and most of my men have contributed almost nothing to the household and housekeeping. Often I was the one with a home and they moved in. My last horrendous rebound marriage left me far worse off financially than I was when I went into the marriage. Believe me, not all women look for the money. Good luck.

@janleeming6800 Remember even back at school. Girls were more attracted to the troublemakers. You mentioned yourself the pheromones. Nature or nurture? Hunter gatherers? I've been asked out numerous times in the past years, including a social worker who was assigned to my son. I turned them down. Lost all trust. Plus, I've the added problem (for them) of having my now 38 year old son with me, who'll I'll look after as long as able. He's getting scared though as I age, as he's enough about him to know he'll be alone. My own immediate family died many years ago. Ex wife has never shown any interest in him. There's the people who say you make your own luck. Not true. I volunteered 5 years at the Citizens Advice which proved that. Anyone can fall on hard times.. You seem to have a good circle of friends, and a comfortable life. Relationships not the be all and end all. Volunteering brought that home, there's people who really do have it hard. All the best for the future.

Jan, sorry to say you just pick the wrong ones. It's not your fault, but with men. If they think or believe a woman is a soft touch, that soft touch can be construded as a form of weakness in a woman, and a very devious man will play on that. You will be used and treated badly by a man. He will get fed up with you and look around for someone else. But there is hope. Don't rush eargly in. Take your time . Try to sus that man out, find out what his true In tensions are.

Even visiting my friends in Provence is now fraught with extra problems such as the Eurostar no longer stopping at Ashford - means I would have to take a longish train journey up to London only to come back down on the same line😄

Was your sister in law a divorcee from Tunbridge? So sorry to hear that your sister in law was horrid to you. Yes he serially cheated on me. I was totally unaware of his infidelity but was getting suspicious of all the evening meetings he had at school. Because I didn't live in the area and was in a very bad emotional state I simply didn't know him well enough. Have had so many people coming to me with tales of his infidelity. He was a serial womanizer. And who got it in the neck from the press etc when he left - Me. He was heavily in debt when I married him (Lord knows how as he was on a salary I could only have dreamed about). In 1997 you couldn't have 2 mortgages so I had to sell my house in order to cover his loan, overdraft and negative equity and then put down 50% of the deposit. He left me high and dry. The house in Bucks was to have been my pension pot - and now is worth about 2 million. I would have been laughing. I don't know how the local Press never cottoned on to his serial infidelity.
