I love nomad games. So much of the conventional meta goes right out the window and it forces players to really shine in their problem solving skills rather than execution of a build order.

Exactly. One problem I have with the AOE2 community and games, are that there is too many Arabia, Arena, and Black Forest. Sure those are great for competitive, but compare it to other rts's the maps are different. I much prefer maps like Nomad, Pilgrims, the other ES's maps, gold rush, and etc. These maps have so much potential for fun. Build orders are less important. But, what is more emphasized is game knowledge, tactics, strategy, and on the fly adaptation. Strategies are less about meta knowledge and more about what you think the enemy will do. Lack of food, gold, wood, or stone can change strategies. Its why I love nomad. Just wish it was more popular so I had more people to play with. :(

It will be with the other maps like Arabia, Black Forest, Gold Rush, and etc. You can set up the game mode to be different as well. You could have a regicide, king of the hill, standard, or etc nomad game.

villese carried really hard, saved both pike and viper and micro'd on 2 sides of the map at the same time, but he did have a safe position and had enough time to boom viper managed to reboom twice, managed to not die 1v2 and came back in the super late imp. he also had to struggle because bad map early pike had it really rough being so close to saymyname, but managed to not get pushed back too much and his siege onagers did a lot in the later stages of the game max is the mvp of the team imo. he dominated the water all game long, both on the outside sea and in the inner pond. he saved viper from getting gg'd, and his navy didnt let bact or fatdragon take expand on their shores and harassed them constantly. bact was the big dog of the asian team. he should have had an impact on the level that max and villese had but fell short when he wasnt able to push viper completely and when max took control of the water. kinda expected more from him fatdragon should have done way more from his position imo. he had a really dominant position on viper and i dont understand how he wasnt able to boom to sustain battle eles production for combo with bact's army. basically the khmer and ethiopian deathball of battle ele + arbalest got stopped by ??? by villese's paladins but its still a shame that they lost 2v1 and that paladin one didnt contribute on that front paladin one played this the worst imo. he should have had a position like villese's but fell really short of impacting the game on any of the two fronts + wasted res on trying to make a navy. for all the time he had to boom and his good position he def should have done way more saymyname had a strong start but didnt have a real answer to villese's paladins so his push on pike was indecisive and pike had time to come back. but imo his biggest problem is that he couldnt combo his comp with paladin one's in the same way that pike could combo his with villese (paladins & bombards + pikemen siege & korean towers vs mangudai and plumes and some halbs that were too little too late) one of the best games ive watched for sure

@@KingJay3578 it still might not have been the best choice, but whatever works, works. Sometimes it helps doing the unexpected, to throw your enemy off balance. Micro and macro remain essential and TheMax happens to be way above average in both - the reason why he excels in teamgames. Viper for instance, has a much larger emphasis on micro. He wins, even with the crappy economy. In teamgames, Max basically empowers the one he plays with, while most players are just able to fend for themselves, if at all.

I think a key part of Max making the water control work was commitment. If I was him when Viper was on the edge of collapse I would have been really tempted to just start building a ton of land units when water control wasn't doing much but Max stuck to it-giving up an asset in the bag you'd already researched and built up a critical mass of units for to try to get a bunch of land upgrades, production buildings etc would have been a waste. It's like the opposite of Paladin's mostly ineffectual attempts to contest the water with resources he probably should have husbanded for land battles.

That's what FatDragon and Paladin One tried to do from early age. TheMax plays to the strength of Saracen civ. He went straight to making galleys instead of fire ships. Just look at Max's K/D from early game. For the first 25 minutes of the game he did most of the killing. And you're saying he didn't contribute in early game? He killed more buildings, more than all his team mates combined, second only to Villese in number of kills, and he did all that mainly from water. On land he also converted more units, more than all players in the game combined. It seems whatever Max's strat is it produced results. Except for the Elite Mameluke though but then he quickly transitioned into monks. He took control of water for the team almost singlehandedly which he did from early game, 1v4. Are you saying Viper cannot survive on his own 1v2 for a little longer???? Maybe Viper is not used to the Finland team game. When he knew he's late and weak -- just look at his K/D -- he should do the Rubenstock, and start slinging res. He did slinging res to Villese, but is that in the early game or late game? Rubenstock would play his role throughout the game. In this Finland team I have to say Viper, in this particular game, is a liability, a passenger, a heavy baggage to carry. But if they had lost the game I'm sure it's very convenient for you to blame TheMax. Viper is never at fault.

I guess they hadn't researched murder holes at that point. It is weird because I've never seen a castle right next to another one like that. It just seems weird that the castles can't fire at each other considering that the far sides of the castles are well outside its minimum range, but I guess if any part of a building is inside the minimum range then it can't be fired upon.

Mayans, Persians, Vikings and Mongols was the classic combination. And still, 13 civs and many balance changes later, nomad 4v4 offers masterpieces such as this. One of the reasons why Nomad is my favourite map, granted I prefer land nomad but Max showed us all how to make use of the outer edge and the central lake. Max and Villese were incredible, well done to them for allowing Viper and Pike to get back into the game and contribute to them winning. The Asian team all played brilliantly, I was sure that they had the game in the bag, this game was intense! Thank you to T90 for the fantastic content and for all you do for this amazing community, the game is alive and healthy because of your work. Yo I fell asleep to this almost at the start and followed the game on a different map with wildly different scenarios (somehow it ended up as a 3v3 idk), thanks to your narration. I explicitly remember hearing you say "Oh god they're going to run out of trees!" And looking around the map and seeing not huge patches of trees but still a decent chunk of trees and replying "Don't be stupid the game will be over before they run out of trees". Anyways it ended with a 3v1 (I remember Viper was in the 3 and I think fat dragon was the 1) with the 1 having an amazing choke point with catapults, cannons, and pikes and it seemed like the 3 broke through after a bit and woke up when you said "He's called the gg". I tell you what is was a trip and half hearing your narration, filling in the blanks, and waking up to a completely different game.

Amazing game, the Korean onagers really MVP in the South, while max kept things together in the north. We can't forget Vilanese Paladins throughout the whole game, holding vs two players for a long time, Action all the way, tobad Viper's form isen't as good in these games.

Even if Max didn't destroy their trade, Team Asian would've lost...just 30 minutes later. It was getting to a point that they were losing steam, and it was just a matter of time. They could not keep up with the Spanish trade bonus, even their relics could only do so much. It didn't help that they were trading resources between each other, which tells you that they were running out of resources. If they could, they would've got the resources themselves instead of trading for it. Another problem Team Asian had near the end of the game, was that they could only pressure one front at a time. While they were fighting back in the South, they had to weaken the North. On the other hand, Team Scandinavian could fight on both fronts without having to shift that many forces from one front to the other. Pretty much, Team Asian was going to lose one of their fronts sooner or later, and their tactics were just delaying the inevitable.
