What an amazing accomplishment! Goes to show that extraordinary results can be achieved by extraordinary actions.

No one mentioned Philip Agee's book 'CIA Diary, Inside the company', which clearly described how the US trained torturers in Latin America, including Argentina. How do you train someone to torture? Torture them.

Democracy is at risk everywhere! The movie gives a great example of how we should deal with dictatorships and extremism. Punishment has to be really hard, to avoid its repetition in the future.

Disappointings that Amy didn’t press him on his exclusive prosecution of Africans, how he undermined various peaceful transitions in Africa & instigated civil strife & in others. He should have been asked about his refusal to prosecute NATO & US-led Coalition war crimes in Afghanistan & Iraq & his point blank refusal to even investigate Israeli crimes. “History has no blank pages.”

I apologize that my reply is a bit long. Indeed, the ICC has a chequered history in Africa & lacks credibility. Without getting too deep into the weeds, I’ll confine myself to only 4 objections: 1. The ICC targets African countries; - Since its establishment in 1998 to date, the ICC has had 44 indictments in 30 cases. All of these are in African countries with Serbia’s Slobodan Milosovic being the only exception. - These numbers are incompatible with reality. It’s inconceivable that this could be the case when it’s commonly understood that many countries around the world, especially in the West have committed crimes that are punishable under international law, ranging from the crime of war of aggression genocide, to crimes against humanity to occupation. - Allies of the West such as the Gulf States, Morocco & Israel & complicit Western states apparently enjoy immunity from ICC investigation & prosecution even when their prima facie crimes have been ongoing for longer than the ICC existed & have continued since. The emphasis on the latter since the ICC cannot act on crimes that took place before it came into existence. 2. ICC indictments in Africa had the effect of undermining Peace, Reconciliation & Transitional agreements: - Under Ocampo, indictments were always handed down on the cusp of or shortly after the signing of peace agreements over the objections of the African Union. - Moreover, in each case, Ocampo always refused to grant (6 month) temporary waivers that would provide time for the belligerents to either reach a peace settlement or achieve crucial milestones in its implementation. The result has invariably been the collapse of negotiations/agreements already reached as happened in the case of Sudan and a renewal of hostilities that further devastated the populations. One example of this is Sudan. A peace agreement is signed in 2005 & the ICC follows this up with an indictment on Omar Bashir, one of the belligerents. This leads to a collapse & renewed fighting. The parties restart the peace process in 2009, the ICC issues a 2nd indictment in 2010 leading to another collapse & eventually leads to the break-up of Sudan & the 2011 independence of South Sudan. This formula was repeated in CAR, DR Congo, Ivory Coast, Kenya etc. 3. The ICC is an instrument of Western geo-political intervention, regime-change & electoral interference in Africa. This was evident in the events that unfolded in Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, DR, Burundi, Kenya etc. NOTE: All of the above happened under Ocampo! 4. The UN Security Council's powers are the legal basis upon which the ICC can investigate crimes without consent by the States involved: The UNSC therefore plays a central role in the ICC & is the key referral body & can grant waivers. Ironically, 3 of the 5 Permanent Members (US, China & Russia) with veto powers are not ‘Members’ of the ICC & therefore cannot be prosecuted. What this means in practice, is that these 5 states can commit prosecutable crimes as indeed some of them have, And they cannot be held accountable because they can veto such attempts within the Security Council if they make it that far or simply prevent their crimes from ever being put on the agenda of the Council, as indeed they have. I hope it sheds some light.

@@carruselles Most of the Brazilian participants had been making open appeals to the military and calling for a return to the dictatorship that was parallel to Argentina's, so the comparison is apt even if the scale and consequences are different.

It is really unfortunate, that ashkanazi jewish Amy Goodman consistently interviews the white people of central and south america and rarely if ever the indigenos people who have suffered 400 years of white occupation, colonialization and racism in their lands of argentina, brazil, panama, colombia, etc... in their politics, business and land ownership.
