Whenever I hear people say “Astartes are Mary Sues, boring and OP”, I think of the devastation of Baal and I think of your diorama and how it captures this… insane level of despair. Of a legion, who trace their ancestors to terra. From being the broken, the cast aways, the unwanted, the twisted of humanity; Raised to angels and thrown into the darkest pits of the galaxy. To the return of their father and how he healed them with his genuine love. To losing him. To 10,000 years of relentless loss. To facing what in 40K is the true face of biological death. The Blood Angels are very many things, but they are most of all a genuinely tragically beautiful expression of the heights of beauty, loss and pain humanity has reached, even as astartes. And the ever living reminder of the cost and effect of those losses.

Years back, when the panic of the 40k end times was bopping around before the 8th edition release, I remember the description of a prophecy of Sanguinius being a loosely veiled description of Dante fighting the Tyranids at the eternity gate, and I always thought it was metal as hell, granted this isn't that exactly but it definitively nails that vibe.
