Well, I think the more you educate yourself the easier and better your choices will be. I'm not an artist, but you can research online for all this information for free. Interestingly enough, there's many artists that have "made it" that have videos talking about how labels gave them a bad deal, and how they aren't making money from their music because of so and so. Hello sir. quick question. If I am managing an artist and I am booking and paying for his shows and setting up social media platforms as well as streamline platforms. Basically if I am paying for everything. Is it right to take my 20% plus whatever I have paid for to help that artist.?

Premiere Lifestyle Ent what does your contract say? If you two agrred on you to take 20% plus whatever you had to spend the yes. If not, then you are agreeing to take the risk by investing your money hopeing your artist will stick. I am in no means a guru at music contracts and agreements so I would suggest a talkng with a music lawyer in regards to what you can or cannot charge the artist for. Take the time out to talk with your artist, most labels back chage the artist when they give them a "signing bonus". For example, if they give $10,000 for a 3 album contract. They expect to get that back in sales of those projects. Especially since they are paying for all studio time, radio play, etc. Etc.. but these are my understanding of what information I've found. Yes after taking ur investing fund depends on your agreement maybe 30% or 50% of generated fund. From is left u take your 20% or 30% as a manager.

I know your question was directed to the the guy, but you have to reimbursed any money that you spent to do all those things, however the artiste has to give you consent to make payment on his/her behalf. Your contract should have a clause that covers payments and reimbursements. I manage artistes who pays me separately for public relations and social media management, and artistes whose percentage is more than 20% which covers management and PR. So this is something to be discussed with the artiste and agreed on.

Theofficialmaka I believe the manager just handles those things for you, but as an independent artist you wouldn't have to worry about managers because you would manage yourself. Especially if you use online platforms to sell your music. Are you an independent artist?

I think you and your manager can decide on that. Its a matter of transparency and accountability. As long as there is honesty I don't think it really matters, but it saves you time, etc., when you let the manager handle the business side of your career, which includes negotiating contracts and receiving payments. In my experience I had a manager who had a small label. He would purchase beats from me for his artists. The Label had a budget for beats so he could only spend based on that limitation. So yes/no. The Manager buys these services on behalf of the artist or label. But the money has to come from somewhere. If you are independent, maybe you used crowd funding or money from your own pocket or even your manager's to fund your music. Hope that helped.

@@craigsutton9654 so kind of goes back to my previous answer, someone has to pay. So it can either be from sponsers, crowd funding, selling merchandise, or using profit from music sales. There are a lot of options. Not saying any are easy, just have to start and then grow. There are a lot of free resources online for suggestions on "how to raise money as an artist" or "how to raise money for studio time" and etc.

DeeDee Elli well it all depends. The manager gets a cut from everything you do and sometimes they want up to 30% which does not include your costs for travel, rentals, music equipment, studio time or any of that. So in reality the manager can see more profit than the artist. Then in another scenario, the artist probably may not have any buzz so there's no performances or sales, then the manager isn't making money neither is the artist. Then the manager would most likely leavein that case
