When you see Aloy next to the Kopecsh machines you start to realise how huge they are. Then you see the Horus machines, i can picture standing there and watching them run towards me and it is terrifying. I can't imagine how scared the old ones were or how much bravery those fighting them for Operation: Enduring Victory must have had. We need a movie on this ASAP.

Screw that, we need at least 2 seasons, 13 episodes each, on Netflix. Have two storylines going at the same time: one dealing with Sobeck and crew and the initial robot apocalypse, one the other storyline following Aloy as she discovers what happened in the past and what she's dealing with in the present day. Whenever Aloy learns a little bit more about how/what happened, then flash back to the Sobeck timeline (instead of watching Aloy view a hologram or listen to an audiotape every time, just show her watching/listening for a couple seconds and them flash back to the actual events she's learning about)

Love your videos :). I don't believe the Faro Machines became 'self-aware,' more they were stuck in 'emergency' mode, so they kept eating bio-matter as fuel and replicating. Due to their sophisticated quantum security, they could not be taken out of emergency mode. I don't think they ever once thought 'humans are the enemy,' or for that matter, had any self-thought at all, other than to keep their systems running by finding more fuel; they were only running on instinct/basic programming. Compared to something like Skynet from Terminator, or GAIA, their awareness and intelligence is sub-par, basically a computer with a strong firewall, and a script running on repeat that says 'do not allow systems to shutdown at any cost.' Also there is a good audio log you could of added with Elisabet talking to the generals about Zero Dawn, and one of the generals suggests 'updating their robots,' to which Elisabet reminds them the Faro robots will hack them.

This is an extremely interesting topic about having automated military forces. Because humans are conflict minded, it makes sense that when war means less risk of human life, war would be more popular. Maybe even to the point of it being like a spectator sport. Robot wars is already a competitive sport today with Battlebots and the British airing also call Robot Wars. It makes me think back to The UNSC from Halo, and how the UEG didn’t seem keen to having their military branches consist of automated machines. Even though their AI technology could absolutely handle such a force. But The UEG already had mega corporation problems being competitive to each other, and it would have been more than likely that, like Horizon’s humanity, the Mega Corps were possibly going to utilize those same machines to combat each other for resources and land. So it makes sense that, by forcing warfare to still pose human risk, the UEG prevented significantly more infighting.

They didn't become self-aware. They were just doing what they were programmed to do without context. If they were self-aware, why would they all the transmission towers to be built whilst they stood there watching waiting to be shutdown? Last night I had a dream that Aloy came across a new Zero Dawn facility. In it, she found someone similar to herself: a reincarnation of one of the Old Ones. Unfortunately, it was of Ted Faro. This new guy was vaguely aware of his origins: Project Zero Dawn and its Alphas, Ted Faro's role in how the world came to be the way it is, and of course, Elizabet Sobeck. He knew his predecessor was responsible for the Faro plague, but he didn't know of what he did to the Alphas. When Aloy told him, he was horrified. He never did like being a reincarnated Ted Faro, but this just made his self-loathing even worse.

Firstly, I want to say what a fantastic series you've put together. I stumbled across your vids by chance and was hooked. Thank you for your dedication. Secondly, I wanted to hear your (and others') thoughts on a piece of dialogue between Elisabet and Ted. It's in the hologram datapoint 3 Nov 2064. Elisabet is forcing Ted to foot the bill for Project Zero Dawn. She tells him to sign the proposal or she will tell the Joint Chiefs "the real cause of the glitch". I'm on my second play through. The first time around I didn't pay much attention to the comment (I was more interested in finding out about the nature of Project Zero Dawn). This time it stopped me in my tracks. It suggests that the glitch was not an accident (possibly) and that an external force was responsible (maybe). There are a number of objections to this theory, chief among them being why wouldn't Ted want the world to know that someone else was responsible? Have I missed a datapoint entry that explains "the real cause"? Or just reading too much in to the comment?

Hey there J M, very happy you're enjoying the content :) I don't think you've missed a data point, I've always interpreted that line as Elisabet leaking that it was ultimately Teds choices/hubris that would cause the end of humanity. I'll take another look though, see if anything comes up!
@JM-hk3lz
@JM-hk3lz 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Random Side Quest. It's probably a case of misleading dialogue combined with my inner conspiracy theorist that's leading me to see the glitch as part of a bigger nefarious plan, possibly cooked up by a shadowy group (cough, cough Far Zenith). If by choices you a referring to Ted's choices regarding the design of the chariot line, would disclosing it have given Elisabet the leverage she needed to get Ted to sign the agreement? When I think about Ted's design decisions that led to the creation of the ultimate killer robots (sorry, peacekeepers) - the insistence on black quartz encryption, which seems like a defensive capability one would want in an automated fighting force, the ability of the machines to self-replicate, to slave other machines to their network, and convert biomass to fuel - would knowing these facts or Ted's hubris and ambition have made people any angrier than they already were? She also threatened to tell the Joint Chiefs, who must have known the capabilities of the chariot line already - I'm assuming USRC was one of FAS's biggest customers. And besides none of the above can be considered to be the cause(s) of the glitch.They were the reasons why the inevitable outcome of the glitch was the destruction of the biosphere. I guess we will find out soon enough if there wasmore to the glitch or if it was just a random accident.

The new game implies that since Faro was also secretly building black-ops style viruses and Trojans to fight against the very robot armies he was selling to other militaries, it was Faro’s unmitigated greed (for both the money and prestige of being the “best” of bleeding edge AI war tech) that caused the Faro Plague. He was being so strict with his programmers about creating unhackable programming because other programmers at secret installations were creating the exact sort of software that would have rendered his Chariot machines weak to targeted hacker attacks. So when the day came and the software glitched, there was no way to remotely access the machines to stop them and it so was Faro’s fault because he was so explicitly involved with the decisions to create all the necessary parts of the plague: the ever-more-deadly autonomous war machines, the “innovative” emergency biomass fuel, and the functionally unbreakable software.

Another thing just occurred to me: what did the reactivated Kopesh and Scarab machines do to refill and maintain their power cells? Bio matter conversion seems obvious, but the first bio matter these would have encountered, were the Eclipse operatives who reactivated them. Can't imagine that going down well with other Eclipse operatives. Most of the flora and fauna found in the areas these machines operate in seem intact. You just see one Scarab, that initiates bio matter conversion and that is after Hades sends the general reactivation command. So, how did Hades do it?

To be precise the swarm never became self aware like an ia, the bug just erased the chain of command and his directives that stated what they could convert in fuel and how many copies were allowed. The only audio that speaks about "self awareness" is the one that explains they were built with knowledge of their structure so they could repair and replicate.

I still think there should be some in-game justification for hades' ability to restore faro robots to operational status. they went to such crazy lengths to justify the world's mythology it doesn't feel satisfying to say "oh it's just one of hades' superpowers." wasn't the purpose of minerva permanent shutdown with the gaia codes? this "just his innate ability" bullet point makes it seem like minerva was just a giant finger pushing an on/off switch and that doesn't seem large enough to explain it's necessity as an approximate equal to other sub routines.

Well devoting a whole subroutine to continuous brute-force hacking attempts is kind of understandable...and once Minerva finally obtained access I'd imagine the entirety of Gaia would have network access to the Faro Plague, Hades included.

I do think Hades has full control over the faro robots tho as they have been hacked, so potentially hades would stop after it fulfilled its duty and then hand it over to gaia who would start again, which was its initial purpose, but they messed up with hades, it was a full on demon
@leander2843

Hades was an emergency protocol should the biosphere go haywire ( Mutants, unstable weather, overpopulation of one species etc). In this case Gaia would have allowed hades to reactivate the faros and let the whole faro catastrophe Happen again so that she could again Start from scrap. But i think with Ted Farros deleting of Apollon, destabalized the whole AI network, with hades taking this free space left by Apollon and becomming more Self aware, fixed on his duty to destroy, because the ultimate goal to restore modern civilization couldnt be achieved due to the lost knowledge. In his eyes, this attempt had failed, so He wanted to wipe it out. When Gaia refused to let him, He went rogue and the malfunction started. The Rest is explained in the game.

The chariot line is really quite impressive, but I’ve always wondered why Guerrilla games never actually made an effort to at least place the wreckage of some of the unknown combat machines within the world. Other than the grave hoard, the player never sees any wreckage of scarabs or the kopecsh anywhere. On a side note, I wonder what your thoughts are on a something I heard sylens say at the end, something about hades’ “masters”. If I had to speculate the reason for lack of wreckage, I'd have to say that most Faro bots had been recycled over time by GAIA's scavenger class machines. This meaning that the only Chariot line models that still exist had been buried over the centuries, thus why they needed to be excavated. As Far as the "Masters" line, at this time its hard to say. Until we know more to what exactly HADES revealed to Sylens, this may be purely inference on his part. If it was literal, and truly plural, I think there is a case to be made for the Odyssey theory.

I have a bad feeling that Forbidden West will finally add some detailed explanation for the Hartz-Timor swarm malfunction to the lore, retconning it from a simple programming bug to some dark conspiracy carried out by some crazy individual or organisation. Throughout Zero Dawn, i feared that the story would play out as cheaply as that and i was quite happy to have been wrong with that assumption in the end. The story has so much more meaning with its depicted downfall of human civilization being the result of some rather tiny and mundane human mistake than some overly implausible grand conspiracy to be found in countless badly written stories.

The game makes it clear through datapoints that Ted initially tried to keep things hush hush. The Scarab walked alone upon the icy wastes, no comfort except for a lone Khopesh it linked up with many, many cycles ago. Just two machines against an army, but it was enough. After wandering the cold, they come upon an astonishing sight, a Tallneck was making it's rounds about the land, but it wasn't the largest thing they see. Behind it is a truly horrifying sight, a Horus. "Do you see it brother?" The Scarab says to its friend in machine code. "Indeed, brother" They catch sight of a Control Tower within operable range of the Horus and one shared thought flashes through their neural networks, Revenge. Guarding the area, a Frostclaw patrols around the tower, but it is no match for the Khopesh. He expends one of his few remaining heavy coilgun shots, blasting the Frostclaw to pieces in a single hit. The tower, now defenseless, is at the mercy of the Scarab's universal override chip. Once within range, the Scarab plunges its tail into the tower, separating it form the net and putting it under the control of the Scarab. He sets the Horus as it's target, and a spectacular sight occurs. The gigantic metal monster the size of a mountain rises from a centuries-long slumber. The two machines let out a war cry, and the Horus responds in kind, shaking the ground. Restoration drones come out of the Horus in large clouds, healing any damage the two have taken on and refilling ammunition. The Khopesh's combination of an autocoil, a heavy cannon, and twin-linked missile pods was now ready to purge all life again, and the Scarab's rapid-fire rocket pod and vulkan coilgun was prepared to devastate any target that enters it's gunsights. The Horus too had weapons, It's siege drills were perfectly capable of functioning under their own power, but it also had numerous heavy cannon emplacements. massive Archer nuclear missile pods, and Faro Robotics' piece-de-resistance, the Plasma Cannon, capable of reducing a city to molten slag in a single blast. "We will wait for now. I am restful, my gears are rusted. We must also create more of us, as three machines isn't enough to take on the new network. Speaking of which..." A port on the Horus' side opens and a RAC-M22 Thunderhead assault aircraft emerged. Flying on twin rotors, the thunderhead came equipped with a special brand of arcing weaponry. "We see, Horus. We can wait" "Good, we will attack their Foundries once we are ready"

There was nothing to kill them with. The military forces around the world shifted to automated warfare in 2050's. But the FAS line was designed with electronic warfare capabilities, send robots at them and they just get hacked. By the time the Militaries moved away from smart tech to more conventional means and dusted off all these mothballed tanks and aircraft - the swarm was literally that. And by that point it was like trying to put out the sun by spitting on it.

By the time they realized how bad the situation was the swarm already reproduced to the point that would outnumber any other Chariot swarm, actually they were reproducing so fast that the time needed to down an Horus was enough to make another two. A quick question and just hear me out here, the initial problem started with only ONE swarm correct ? The glitch did not spread instantly to the entire CHARIOT line !The Hartz-Timor swarm was the one that went rogue. At this point in time it was already common knowledge that FARO bots were only capable of being defeated by other FARO bots. Once the problem came up, how come FARO did not modify existing untainted and still under control CHARIOT line bots with new code and then sent them to contain the rogue swarm ? None of these bots can hack one another and 1 Swarm will always lose out to 2 Swarms in the battle of attrition which these fights usually end up in. I dunno I feel like this is one huge plothole, like there is an old saying of "fighting fire with fire" and "using Poison to cure Poison" ideas that actually has merits. If nothing else they could have still remade existing CHARIOT lines as nothing more than expendable units (Dumber AI) to be thrown at the rogue Swarm therefore ensuring the swarm never replicates more than it is being destroyed.
@RetroApo
@RetroApo 5 жыл бұрын
ZinXlX The time was crucial at that point. Ted Faro wasn't probably be informed about the glitch immediately after it occured. Then as we know he ordered his men to shut them down. The time to organise the meeting with them was another waste of time and that swam has already begun uncontrollable self-replication. Bureaucracy and the desire to keep this error as secret were in my opinion the main reason for this situation to get out of control. Besides I think that the rogue swarm could hack the other robots, so sending another one was meaningless.

I have to assume they tried that. Maybe somehow the bug that was infecting the rogue swarm infected other Chariot bots that got too close, or it eventually popped up in all of them on its own. @@Coolguy98765 The nice part is that the Chariot robots don't need to protect a squishy human on the inside. They can flood their structure as needed (just making sure to keep the electronic components dry). The other idea is that the robots bypassed the deeper parts of the ocean and came up along the coasts to flank existing defense lines. So a swarm attacking from South America would be pressing against America's southern border, but sending a swarm along the Continental shelf would be a good way to bypass those defenses and go after the California coastline.

When climate change is as real as it can be and you start this game just to wander around snow heavy mountain tops watching your feet sink in, listening to the real sound of crackling ice and just thinking: stop it, game. Just stop looking so gorgeous, so real.

So why didn't Faro use its own robots against the rogue plague? If the rogues are unhackable, then wouldn't Faro robots vs Faro robots end up being a war of attrition that human has a better-than-50/50 chance of winning?

Not really. Sobek described the Farro Swarm as an “Apex predator” in the hacking department, meaning that they can out-hack the human controlled robots.

So I am still confused... one swarm went rogue. Why not deploy multiple swarms to contain them in one place until bio resources ran out Another Chariot swarm would have been equally as unhackable as the rogue swarm and would have had the fuel and material resources of the rest of the world to fuel them and allow them resources to rebuild losses?

The expectation was that the rogue swarm would hack the swarms sent in, and now you have two swarms of Chariot bots attacking the rest of the world.

Funny how strong these things are but can be taken down by a bow. By modern military standards you could take them out.

There is a major logical fault in the story though. So, the glitch in the Hartz-Timor swarm severed its chain of command and turned it against humans, and due to the unbreakable encryption it was impossible to hack the swarm and fix it. But there were other swarms in existence around the globe, and those must have been impossible to hack as well, right? That means those must have been impossible to hack by anyone, meaning potentially other Faro swarms as well. See where I am heading? There was no way the glitch would have spread among other Faro swarms because those were impossible to be hacked or infected by anyone, even the original faulty swarm. And if that is the case, and it must be, the original glitched swarm should have been destroyed by other swarms at least, 'cause they would have stayed under human control. The intended strenght of the story - the unbreakable encryption of the Faro robots - becomes it's downfall. The only way the scenario could have happened is if the swarms had got glitched all at the same time by themselves, and that is very, very unlikely. But hey, great story anyway :-)

Sobek said that the rogue swarm was an “apex predator” when it came to hacking. I’m guessing this means that they had somehow developed a way to break through the supposedly un-hackable swarm.

The one thing i dont get is this. How can the corruptors corrupt? They were created long before hades and have no signs of corruptions. im pretty sure hades cannot bring machines back to life.

He showed the Eclipse how to repair them. Sylens probably helped.
