My issue with the coil spring is the ease of adjustment the coil spring. No where to put a spanner wrench. I think that is a design flaw otherwise great shock

Chris, the shocks are designed to be turned by hand without the need for the spanner, If you are having a hard time turning your shocks, we recommend a little bit of lubrication on the threads of the shocks, like wd-40 specialist dry lube, or a silicone based spray. This will make them nice and easy to turn, It can be done more often if you wash your bike a lot and the lubrication wears off.

I don’t ever ride 2 up, I just want the ability to lower a bit, and when I’m riding, I want it to be like I’m on a cloud when I’m on the interstate. My worry about getting a Legend air suspension is that it would be too soft and affect performance when I’m going harder on the bike. I just have no experience in this area. I welcome feedback as to whether you guys recommend coil or air for my situation. ( bike is a 2021 Harley Fat Bob)

Hello- Great question and understandable concern, we can assure you that from the most casual riding to the most aggressive riding the AIR suspension will go softer than you want and absolutely rock-hard firmer than you'd want and in somewhere in the middle you will find your happy medium. That is the beauty of AIR suspension, you get low when you need, you get soft when you need, you get firm when you need, and it's all done with the simple push of a button on the fly while riding. If you have the need or desire to be able to lower the bike, even temporarily, the AIR suspension is the best route. To adjust on the fly from soft and firm.

Great video, i have a question about rebound control. Ive seen this set up as a second switch on air ride, but couldn't you just add more air for a stiff ride, and let air out to sofen it up?

@jasper_Rides Good question, so yes to a certain degree you can adjust on the fly how soft or firm you want the air suspension to ride. You can only take away so much air before you are not running enough pressure and that will make you more prone to repeated bottoming out as well as potentially damaging the shocks. In most cases we recommend with a 13" air shocks that you ride it in the 12" position, this will give you right at 1" of suspension sag, that sag tells the shocks the amount of weight on the bike and to use all of its suspension travel and keep you from bottoming out. From there the rebound adjuster controls how fast or slow (soft to firm) you want the ride. You can also make incremental air changes as well depending on road conditions and rider preference. You can absolutely increase air pressure to firm up the ride depending on what you are looking for, but as you add more and more pressure, you may want to go to a lower number on your rebound setting to offset the firmer shock, with quicker rebound. There is a point when you can add too much air and you simply do not weight enough to allow the suspension to stroke correctly and absorb bumps for you, but that is a very subjective topic and depends on what you are doing with the bike and what your preference is on soft and firm. ok what one for different riding styles was hoping you'd hit on that. how does the air ride handle the twisties like i mean riding it like a sport bike twisties

Great question! let's talk about that. Legend Suspensions - Air vs Coil We often receive the question, "Should I go with air shocks or coil?" Although this decision ultimately is up to the customer, there are those out there who may be better suited to use one product line or the other based on a variety of factors. Both air ride and coil shocks have their advantages and disadvantages, however, at the end of the day, choosing the right shock (air or coil) is going to ensure you are getting the best ride experience expected from a quality-made suspension product. To begin, let's discuss Air Ride. A common misconception is that air ride isn't meant to improve ride quality and is primarily designed to increase the cosmetic appeal of "Cool Factor". Although with some products out there this is true, we take great pride in offering a product that can achieve both. We designed our air ride with the goal, first and foremost, to handle heavy loads, increase ease of adjustment, and improve the ride quality of our customers' experience. Our air ride still offers, the ability to drop the seat height significantly lower than stock for that lowered look while parked, however, the shocks are designed to be ridden and inflated with air pressure to achieve the stock ride height. This leads us to the first benefit of Air Ride that can be experienced, which is the ease of adjustment. Our air ride kits come with an onboard compressor/solenoid assembly, along with handlebar-mounted control to allow the rider to make "on-the-fly" air pressure adjustments while riding. This "on-the-fly" adjustability is a great solution for our shorter customers who may need to lower their seat height to make it easier to maneuver their motorcycle while parking, stopping at stop signs, etc. The rider can then air the system back up on the go to achieve a comfortable ride and still have adequate suspension travel. Another situation where air ride can benefit some customers more than coil is the ease of adjustment offered when changing riding configurations. Customers who are always changing configuration between one-up, two-up, and/or loaded down with baggage, may prefer the air ride to a coil as adjusting preload is as simple as pressing the button on the handlebar control to increase or decrease air pressure to stiffen or soften the shocks to account for the added weight on the bike. This eliminates the need to constantly turn springs on a coil shock to account for different riding configurations. Now, let's talk about coil suspension. For most customers, a coil shock ends up being the preferred suspension option due to a generally lower price point, along with the simplicity, and ease of use. Our coil shocks come in a variety of lengths (12", 13", and 14" on select models). The different length options offered, allow our customers to maintain or increase their suspension travel, while greatly improving their ride quality and performance aspects in regard to suspension. Although the air ride products we offer make it extremely easy to adjust preload for different weight configurations on the bike, our coil shocks are a close second as far as ease of adjustment goes. The coil shocks we offer don't require any spanner wrenches or special tools to turn the coil springs when adjusting preload but can be turned by hand just by grabbing the spring and twisting. Another great benefit of our coil products is the adjustment options our top-tier coil products offer. With our REVO ARC models, there are additional rebound and compression adjustments in the form of dials with 7 different adjustment settings for each to allow the rider to really fine-tune their ride quality for different riding styles and configurations and enhance the performance of the shocks. To answer your question directly, The AIR or AIR-A will absolutely tear up the twisties. You can change how soft or firm the ride is, on the fly so it gives you exactly what you're looking for and allows you to be quite picky with your suspension setup.

Can you mount the piggy back facing down? My bag set up won’t allow it to be on top.

Hello, depending on the bike we recommend facing the reservoir forward towards the front of the bike instead of the back to clear saddlebags. However, we would not recommend mounting the shocks upside down. If you are unable to mount them facing forward, we recommend emailing some picture to service@legendsuspensions.com to have them look at your options.

The 13" Revo-A and the AIR-A are very comparable in comfort. The main things that will be different between them is that the AIR will give you on the fly adjustment and is in general easier to adjust between solo and 2-up riding. AIR-A set correctly for you and the 13" Revo-A set correctly for you might be so close you cannot tell the difference. We would say, if you do not have a need to raise and lower the bike or adjust on the fly then go with the Revo-A

Hi there, If you have an AIR-A kit and were to run the recommended suspension sag setting of 3/4" to 1" and select any preferred rebound setting. When you are installing 13" Revo-A shocks simply set the shocks once installed at this same sag range and rebound setting and they would feel just about identical. We do not preadjust suspension from the factory as every bike and weight of rider is slightly different. setting them in advance would kind of be like having a shirt tailored to you without giving your measurements or trying it on in person. When we install shocks at Sturgis, or Daytona, we ensure you are sitting on the bike with your riding gear and or passenger and THEN we measure to make absolutely sure they are dialed in just for you and your setup. Out of the bike the 13" Revo-A at factory preload is right about 1" of sag for a 200lb rider. So, they often do not take too much additional adjustment. to get then perfect for you, but that is a finishing touch we like to do once they are install or once you have a shop install. Or if you are installing them yourself, anyone in your house or a neighbor or local shop can help you dial them in. With the air shock at lowest 10-1/4" is there any shock absorption left or are you basically bottomed out with no shock.

Tom, When the suspension is fully compressed this will have the shocks on the bump stops. While the bike is mobile when aired all the way down and you can roll the bike or get around a parking lot, we do not recommend riding the bike in this position at much higher speeds than parking lot speeds. it would essential become a rigid, but could cause damage to the suspension since there is no air to cushion the bumps.

In my experience no- I do take off the hard bags fairly often wipe off the outside with hot soapy water just to keep road grime and pollutants off the rubber. I check the lines, reservoir/tank, etc to make sure everything is buttoned up and I think doing that preventative checks helps keep them fairly maintenance free. I hope that helps you my man. I have Dirty Air on two of my custom road glides and progressives on my Street glide. I like a firmer ride so to me the bags help me get it perfect without as much trial and error as with coil overs. And I live up in Santa Cruz mtns Nor Cal and I can air it up and hustle the twisty roads very easily.

Air is a lot more likely to go wrong and when it dose on the road side can be a lot of hassle trying to find the fault. They are not what any real hard core biker would ever use on a bike they ride daily. I would avoid them at all costs. Air is for low rider cars that go up and down the strip or high end cars that need fixing every five minutes that rich people can afford dealers to fix. Real bikers ride what works. That is the bottom line. they are Gimmick parts for posers who want to look good but have no real idea.

@jasonriley We have separate videos for compression and rebound depending on shock models. between AIR and Revo the fixed rebound setting of 3 is the same. Between AIR-A and Revo-A the 6 positions of rebound are the same as well. information on this can be found in dedicated rebound videos on our channel. Hey there, the coil and air shocks offer a lot of the same features. The air shocks will have a lot of convenient features for those looking for those options, however, if you do not need to regularly adjust your suspension, switching between 2-up and solo, or if you do not regularly change the weight on your bike, the coils are a fantastic option. A lot of times when people need those features and they do not have air shocks they do not adjust them correctly to optimize the ride. There is no wrong choice, if you don't need the features of AIR, we recommend coils the majority of the time for their ride quality, performance, reliability, tool free adjustment, they have fewer moving parts than AIR shocks, they offer different colors and lengths.

Real bikers put many miles on their bikes a year and fix them on the side of the road if needs be. Coils are far more user friendly and will do the miles without issues. Air is for Plastic Bikers NOT real ones.
