I know for us (we travel with just the packs on our back) we try and get boarded early since we have to store our stuff overhead. That would be the reason I think most people wait - so they can find room to put their stuff! Great view from the hotel!

My husband and I went to Rome in July 2017 and thought we were going to die, too, when our first driver was driving us through the city. I think the craziest thing we noticed was that people are not required by law to pull over for emergency vehicles. Glad you guys survived the crazy driving!

SUCH. CRAZY. DRIVING! We never really got used to is there, that's for sure. How was Rome?! It's definitely on our list to visit!

Rome was very interesting! Lots of history, which we enjoyed. We would recommend going either in the Spring or Fall. It was so dreadfully hot that it was hard for us to appreciate everything there at times. We've been to several cities in Germany, as well, and prefer Germany to Italy. However, I'd say that visiting the Vatican was definitely a highlight in my life. Not sure that we'll go to Rome again, but are happy that we got to see it the one time.

I haven't had fruit loops in so long! I might have to get some haha, so good! Haha, you guys are the smart ones for taking a seat. No point in standing in line. Airplane food is my favorite thing ever haha. European rooms seem so much more space efficient. Lol, when you said "he tried to kill us" xD The locals are the best to get info from. So knowledgeable! I can't believe how cheap the wine is!! Funny to see how many mopeds there are. The food looks absolutely AMAZING! Never been on an elevator that's malfunctioned (aside from Tower of terror xD) must have been scary! Glad you guys were able to explore a bit on your first day!

I'm so late to this, but awesome. Re: People standing pre-flight: I've never understood that. It's delayed. just chill. you've got an 8 hour flight ahead, settle in. I like the idea of you taking Luc out if things had gone awry. We've had great luck with locals and drivers. We've done that in Mexico. Wine is so cheap there, holy cow.

2 reasons why people stand waiting for the gate to open: People like groups and conforming :) or it's about hand luggage. People bring more and more hand luggage but there is less and less space. If you want to be sure your hand luggage is right above you, then you'd better get on the plane early :)

Jet lag is one of the worst things ever. Also, you guys got a very nice European room. I've seen some very tiny rooms and yours is quite large for Europe. Nice pick!

Any plans to visit Disneyland Paris while you're there? I wanted to attend the 25th Anniversary celebration SO badly.. but I'm terrified of traveling overseas! However, my parents and I are booked on the September 2018 British Isles Disney Cruise (which is based out of Dover).. sooo.. ANY advice for a first time "transatlantic" flyer??

Was the meal expensive?

It seems like most of the meals we had were around 15 - 20 Euros, and that would have been for a nicer lunch or a dinner. Breakfasts were cheap because we just grabbed pastries and coffee and it was only a couple of euros.
