A Roman Soldier: "But why do we need to fight at all? Why don't the barbarians just let us in so we can give them civilization? I mean surely they want it right?" Another Roman Soldier: "No one really knows. Some say its how the Barbarians test if we are worthy to rule over them. " Another nother Roman Soldier: "I would think so, isn't that why after we win they fight for us later?"

There was nothing in Germania except marsh land, forests, and barbarians. The cost was too high to try to conquer and maintain Germania. Emperor Trajan temporarily conquered Germania to the Elb River. Emperor Hadrin decided it was too costly to stay. Germanus defeated and killed Arminis and restored honor to Rome after the defeat of Tuteburg Forrest in 9 AD.

Love the use of modern cadance to Latin. I sang this same song in basic, but it was Vietnam, Vietnam, Late at Night while your sleeping the VC are creeping up on you. Then some would use poison ivy to avoid any actual naming... But hey... This was back in the 80's and I always love the underlying rhythm. Nice Job :)

I thought the VC and the Vietnam War was in the 1960s and 1970s not 1980s?
@DaleHartley Жыл бұрын
@@mrbaab5932 it was, but we still used the cadence in the late 80's. And really it was a leftover war from France and started in the late 50's. I think the last troops pulled out in 72? But yes you are correct ;)
@dashsocur10 ай бұрын
They still used this song when I was in 20 years ago. They'd dropped the Vietnam references by that point (at that time it was either Drill Sergeant or First Sergeant "creeping all around") but kept the tune and general themes. Wonder just how far back it goes originally.

Roman, the name of a strong and feared people who ruled the mightiest Empire the world had ever known. I am here to encourage you, the proud folk of Jupiter to regain your strength for the world needs you now more than ever before. Stand with us, stand with the loyal men of Lugh, Odin and Perun. Together we can banish this blight once and for all!

You are so foolish, all of your religious holidays are lore are stolen from us, you know your cult to be false but still you persist for what reason! You believe Europa is stronger as Christian? We lost the Crusades because of Christianity, the Muslims were farther ahead than us in technology. All this so you can worship Semite. You are an infidel, you can redeem yourself by fighting for the true lord Jupiter Optimus Maximus. Historical accounts state that the Roman Army did have cadences We just don't know for sure how. For example, the German military uses a unison sing-along while the American military uses a call-back system, like is used in the movie Ben Hur from which this song is from
