They still used this song when I was in 20 years ago. They'd dropped the Vietnam references by that point (at that time it was either Drill Sergeant or First Sergeant "creeping all around") but kept the tune and general themes. Wonder just how far back it goes originally.

@@askotelawdaniec1024 Your teacher tells the truth about pronunciation but uses the so-called ecclesiastical one that is used today in the country where Latin is the official language, i.e. the Vatican. This pronunciation is very similar to that of the Italian language and has been used for centuries. However, the Latin spoken 2000 years ago had a different pronunciation in some sounds. For example, C and G were always hard (palatalized versions did not exist), the T was always pronounced as a T (no TS sound), the Greek Y was pronounced like the French U and not like an "i", the vowels were pronounced as they are written (so the diphthongs were pronounced), the V was usually pronounced like a U, the TH (Latin form of a Greek sound) was perhaps initially pronounced as in English but probably soon became a simple T, the PH (another import from Greek) was probably pronounced like an aspirated P but it probably soon became an F, the final M of the words was nasalized like in Portuguese, the long vowels were actually longer than the short ones (same pronunciation but different duration)... Here is an example of classical Latin spoken by an Italian: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX7XZpmXq51ojbs&ab_channel=Metatron%27sAcademy Also you can listen to classical Latin in the German TV series "Barbarians".
