Boudica never faced a full Legion, she fights parts of the VIIII Hispania ( the unlucky 9th, that legion that was much later simply disbanded for bad luck, not lost ). The best estimates were four to five cohorten ~ 2000 to 2500 men incl. some Cavalerie ( ~ 200) without any Auxileries.

I once read an article about roman defectors. In any late republican war there were a considerable group of deserters, who often joined the enemy and in the end faced death (as the romans always insisted that they should be returned for a cruel deadly punishment). It's not that Boudica sucked at tactics, it's that she wasn't solely in charge, as it were. She was leading a massive, disaprate army made up of mutliple different tribes that, on a whim, could've decided to leave if she didn't give them the loot and glory she had promised them. So, when they all demanded that they stand and fight at Watling St., she kinda had no choice.

Maybe they shouldn't have resisted in the first place if the moment they met a single well prepared Legion in battle along a minor road they couldn't help but get annihilated. She shoulda accounted for being *unable* to win a field battle, but she clearly did not.

A legion, the 9th had been destroyed already before this battle by boudica, and her insanely angry icenii, she advanced with her men with a proposal: kill the romans or die with them. Many britons died along with romans, until they met The 13th. The reason they were so mad? Boudicca was raped by british mercenaries sent by the new governor of brittania, the moron broke the treaties set with icenii because he did not accept her dying father's wishes to have his daughters as co rulers after his death, deal he had with the old roman governor.
