Danilko, the real name of Verka Serdyuchka, studied German at school, as a foreign language, not English! Therefore, when he needed to write a song for Eurovision, he inserted a part of the German text.

the name for the stage is Verka Serdyuchka (Andrey Danilko) just a super guy, he has all the folk songs for both dancing and partying! Ukraine is cool Ukraine is super great!

yeah, the language issue. Verka used a mix of German, Ukrainian English .. Initially in the 50¨s everybody had to use their own language. Later was permitted to use whatever language you want , but a group from Belgium invented a trilulu language , yeah, comedy.Or a Norwegian group in Swahili . Now the rule say you can sing in any language of the participating countries . So some singers use their native language, others a mix with English. But it is allowed to use other language Celine Dion under Swiss participation used french, or recently Estonia used Italian , Austrian in french , or Romanian singer in Spanish

The winner was Serbia wit 268 points. Ukraine came second with 235 points.This Ukrainian song was multilingual in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian.

This song caused a diplomatic incident with Russia, as it's a not so subtle but hilarious trolling of Russia by Ukraine. Lasha Tumbai is a nonsense phrase ... but it SOUNDS like 'Russia Goodbye' in English. Ukraine had a strained relationship with its old USSR master Russia back in 2007 that has only escalated ever since. The issue is Ukraine wanting to lessen the relationship with Russia and make a relationship with the EU. I think the song being partially in German 'Sieben sieben I love you' is pointing at that. Meanwhile Verka has a giant USSR Communist star plonked on his head. And they're wearing military uniform. Anyway, Russia understood implicitly they were being mocked to shit and had a fit and complained mightily, to no avail. The song came second in the end and everyone remembers it as one of THE Eurovision classics. In the final they actually sing Russia Goodbye at one point instead of the nonsense phrase. There's often more meaning in 'silly' Eurovision song than is first apparent.

This scandal was invented in Russia. Verka is very popular in Russia and there was a very good chance that Verka will win Eurovision. Russia would not have survived if Ukraine had won a second time. Therefore, they invented all this so that the Moscovites would not vote for Verka.

When that song was presented everyone was concerned what that phrase meant. Verka said that the song is about dancing and to make it more ridiculous she took that phrase from Mongolian language and "LASHA TUMBAI" means "Let's dance" (or "I love to dance" don't remember) and that's what you can hear her singing/saying in English "I love to dance", "DANCING!".

Using German language was only for fun, because everyone know counting in German and it sounds rude but fun at the same time. A few languages are used in this song: German, Turkish, Russian and Ukrainian. Don’t think that it is only German .

Actually the song is a political divorce declaration. Verka actually does sing "Russia Goodbye" during the live performance. "Lasha Tumbai" is a deliberatelly constructet neologism to sound like "Russia Goodbye" when sung in an Ukrainian accent in order to elude Eurovision's "non-political" guidlines.

I would like to recommend something more serious, because Eurovision is not only awkward performances and joke entries. Some countries take the contest very seriously. You can react to Australia 2019, Kate Miller-Heidke "Zero gravity". She had, in my opinion, one of the most eye-catching performances in Eurovision by far. I am sorry, but i have to politely disagree. But entries like Verka's are the true spirit of eurovision, and its kinda rude to say it's a joke entry or an awkward performance, it's just PERFECT for eurovision. Its pure camp, and always does well at eurovision. I mean this song made second place and few performances are so beloved by esc fans like this song is. It's fun, catchy and truly different. i mean Kate miller was ok, but ok is usually not enough, also shown in the end ratings, and more than half her points came from the jury vote, and they usually dont really know what they are doing and are usually even more political then the televoting.
