Osun Osogbo Festival EXCLUSIVE: I Don't Pray for My Children to Be in My Shoes - Arugba | Legit TV

In this exclusive interview with Legit TV, the young lady who has been the bearer of the sacred calabash for the Osun/Osogbo Festival for the past six years, told our correspondent that she doesn't pray for her children to suffer the same fate as hers.
She noted that even though she liked the way Arugbas are being cared for, she does not expect that her children will tow the same path.
"We don't always know where we are when we are carrying that calabash," she confessed.

Such a smart lady. Her responses were sharp, straight to the point. The headline is so misleading. At a glance, it’s meant to connote regret; an Arugba not wishing same for her children. In truth, according to the lady’s response, the child of an Arugba is forbidden from being one, it’s a rule she’s sure of and fears for its consequences on her children should it be flouted. She’s not regretting being an Arugba but forbids her children from breaching the tradition. The journalist wanted her to show some regrets and practically tried to put words in her mouth but she responded smartly and gracefully, better than many adults would have managed. My respect to her!
