@@crossboxian176 , introducing a part in a new color of which only one is used in a rather expensive (so relatively low volume) set because it would be cheaper than using an existing part already produced in much higher numbers? The D-pads could have been attached to a cross over a round 1x1 stud,so it could be pressed into the corresponding direction,and the A and B buttons could be placed like a fork, 2 round 1x1 pieces on top of a 4x1 piece again on top of the 1x1 round piece with a hole on top,it is simple,but you can't press both buttons at once

Looking at both sets, I guess you could make both into fancy emulation cases, or integrate an LCD/LED screen into the TV itself. I think preserving the cartridges from the NES replica would also be possible, by the use of a simple camera and qr codes on the backs of carts, with new MOC carts simply having different QR codes, so they would basically select a ROM from an SD card on an RPI or something.

This was a very nice build and does itself good justice to the actual console. It's certainly expensive relative to other sets similarly priced to this or less and also bigger, but it's worth it. I don't mind the whole buildable consoles series (if we can call it that) to be a one off thing with only this NES, but depending on how this partnership with Nintendo goes, I wouldn't say no to a buildable N64 with a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time golden cartridge. I've never played that game, but I know it's got that legendary status that's still alive today over 20 years later. I don't know if we'll see other buildable consoles based on Playstation or Xbox anytime soon due to the partnership that can create conflicts of interest but you never know!

@LieuNoir

my guess is: rigidity. Your alternative will not hold together if you pull slightly on the plate or if there is side pressure on the pins, I think. It depends on the usage, in some case, your alternative is indeed enough. The piece: rebrickable.com/parts/68382/plate-1-x-4-with-2-bottom-pins/

I'm surprised LEGO pulled off the mechanism so well in a stand-alone set, but I they're clearly trying new approaches for their AFOLs and thus are willing to up-the-anti a bit (Bits of green behind the ports? Give me a break!). I feel like this set started as a joke conversation between Nintendo employees and LEGO designers, and then one of them just made the mechanism and thought, "Geez, this could actually work."

Long-time Nintendo fan here. The only problem is that Nintendo is milking the hell out of the NES generation (because of nostalgia), leaving out ALL the next consoles. Now it should be the Gamecube's turn to be milked for nostalgia (and in a few years it will be Wii's turn). Okay, some iconic games were released on the NES, but not all of them have aged really well. Some of them (SMB 1, 2, 3) have been "remade" for next consoles and look really better. So this is an alert sign from a Nintendo (and Lego) fan: the problem with continuing marketing of nostalgia-based NES and SMB 1, is that the other consoles will kinda fade into obscurity. That said, I would like to see something like 1:1 recreation of videogame consoles (both portable and home ones).

What a piece of junk! The TV part alone would be a nice display set for about 30 Euro. But for the price tag I expected real playability with a functional controller, different scenarios and at least a few different games to choose . Maybe even compatibility with original game disks. The technical possibillities would be huge with nowadays electronics. Lego is rightly criticized for needing a smartphone to play with some sets, fo example the new Technic Volvo, and all the "hidden side" trash! Here it would´ve made sense! Asking over 220 Euro for this set, of which half is just a grey box without any function, is just a rude slap in the face!

I'm also a bit disappointed you gave into reviewing sets for others who don't want to bother with a time consuming video, for the sake of publicity and in consequence do less Technic MOC's which made you the famous youtuber you are today. I get it you don't have to buy sets nowadays and need to review the things you get for free asap but this should be secondary to the "Workshop". Am I the only that find useless this set? An enormous, super expensive, extremely boring to build fake NES. I Just don't get the point. At the end of the day you build a simple big brick. Even an Architecture set is more funny to build than this. Also the big Mario figure is very ugly and the sounds it emits when connected to the fake tv are out of syncronization. All this money and after the loooong boooooring build, you just rotate the crank for a few seconds, look at the awkward movement of the fake Mario and put the set on a shelf. Also, for the same price of this set (or even cheaper if you are lucky) you can find a real, boxed and well manteined nes that for sure is better than this to put on a shelf and...you can use it!
