Batman having to physically brand criminals with his symbol is both egotistical, and kind of the dumber way to show that Batman is a symbol, not just a man. That's what happens when you give a wacky visionary director like Zack Snyder control of the character. "No no, Bruce can't just fall into a well full of bats for his origin story; The bats have to CARRY HIM BACK UP the well, while he spreads his arms out like a deity." ... Yeah, real subtle.
