LEGO City Update! Layout Changes & Placing 1950s Diner!

In this LEGO city update, I MILS plate the 1950s Diner set and place it! The MILS integration includes a parking lot on a 48x48 baseplate. It looks so much better! Of course... in order to place it in the city I have to make a ton of changes to the layout... exciting times!

That large open base plate by the dinner could be a parking lot with food trucks. It could have a little gazebo and benches under for people to eat. I think it would fit nicely in that area. I love your city btw, you're very creative.

That’s a kinda neat place for the farm. An idea would be like an urban farmhouse with a community garden, and farmers market and could also fit food stalls and food trucks. Lots of possibilities

The Weasleys house can be near the farm and farm market, it will blend well with the city/nature transition and the haunted house too. Also, the dinner might look cool facing the beach, and the bigger parking lot in the front could have some foodtrucks, so you have where to put them, since they are lost in the city

You can create an Drive-In Cinema near to the Diner, backing to the 50’s too. It would be a perfect use for the area!

That MILS plate work was top tier! REALLY well executed. Have you considered a dog park next to the diner near the beach? It would sort of make the section from the zoo to the beach a very family friendly destination location and it would blend well with the outdoor vibe. You could even set up an adoption day story at the park with pets meeting their forever families. Whatever you decide to build, I’m here for it!

I know you don't want to scrap the farm completely but instead of the farm that spot would be perfect for maybe a school and a park. since its close to the residential area and near downtown in my option it would work better than a farm. plus it would be cool to see a class on a field trip going to the zoo and you could have a school bus dropping/ picking kids up in the residential neighborhood. just a thought tho.

1. The diner relocated to the amusement area, easier to blend in the theme 2. Add a park / recreational areanext to the skate park for easier transition from camping grounds. 3. Hot air balloon attraction to help highlight mountain camping and ocean area

I like the idea to make a larger parking lot near the park because you could make it, like you said, a show off spot for various vehicles. Maybe go for a car show theme and throw in a DJ stand or some other details in the parking lot. The visitors of the car show would visit the diner and get some grub, so that’s sort of the story with that - and of course the vehicles can rotate whenever you want a change of color or design in the area. 4 cars on each side of the parking lot backed into their respective spots.

Bricklink has a really nice saw mill that has a water wheel could be nice to have near the forest and by the farm. The stream that you were planning on putting in could be a nice link up with the water wheel.

Love the Ideas observatory being put on a new mountain! It should have mostly light browns / greens and bushes so it looks like the landscaping in LA where the famous Griffith Observatory is! As for the parking lot, on one hand it could be cool for an old school car show... but on the other hand it would take up way too much space

You indeed should make a parking lot next to the skatepark and have some skaters skating a red parkingcurb, that would be really cool! (I'm a skater myself and skating curbs is kinda trending right now) Used to have a little Lego town myself when I was a kid, seeing this brings back so much memories

You could place the diner sign on a separate larger pole on the side walk (similar to the bowling alley). so it can be seen from down the road

Idea: Ditch the diner parking MILS plate, and instead make it a beachfront diner between the Old Fishing Store and skate park. Perhaps facing the water and with a few outdoor eating tables? Keeps the old farm area for other cool stuff.

The dinner is in a PERFECT spot. Save the open spot for future builds. Put a fence around it and some weeds and brown plates, like. It's waiting for a future building. AWESOME LEGO CITY👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I really really really don’t love the farm being in by where the canal was, I think it works best near the camp ground outside of the buildings and the raised train line. Maybe it just needs to be re oriented to fit better with the new beach layout, but I liked it better where it was.

Idea for the 48x48: a dirtbike/atv track! You must have loads of quads by now, it's fun landscaping and some nice actionscenes can be made 😊

I like the idea of 8 car parking and diner…maybe add the string Ray and fast and furious grabbing food and definitely love the trees and road around it feels like a country drive and then stop for a bite at the oldest food spot in the area…farm and farmers market is definitely going to be a awesome build

I think it would fit really well if you add a gas station to the area where the diner and parking lot area (and skatepark) is, it would be a nice service area for the city's vehicles and it would also be a nice little throwback to when you had the gas station in the same area when that used to be the boatyard.

I don't mind the placement where the farm is. I mean sure it's close to the city but where I live, it the same thing. And I'm not against the idea of putting a big parking lot but, maybe you could instead, put a beachy building like the Boutique Hotel and add a little parking lot in front of that if you want.

I like the new larger parking. You could put beach parking nearest skate park and maybe your skate and surf shop. You could park the Volkswagen van with the surfer guys and gals hanging out.

Put the farm back on that 48x48 plate. It makes sense to have it next to the camp ground and the diner. The diner would be organically sourced from the farm. Glad you're going to work on a mountain. Maybe now you can work on including a brick mine with an ore cart and a couple of miners? Great job on the Lego City thus far!!

That space in front of the diner is the perfect spot for a retro style drive up burger place. Would look cool, fits with the diner, and you could have a retro car night every day of the week. Keep up the amazing content!

Hey Bricksie, the city is looking great and the new location for the farm makes sense. If you are planning to add a mountain by the farm, maybe enclose the train in a tunnel for an interesting feature, or construct the train into the side of the mountain.

The farm is perfect where it is. Where I live there is a farm that has a field and right next to that is a beach. I guess it's just more common in the countryside.

for the mountain you were talking about, you should almost build the raised train track into the mountain weather its a small little tunnel thing or you can make a mountain station engraved in the side. Great work

Jordan? How about a drive through cinema? That would be so fitting with the 50’s retro diner, and also you could design & place a children’s play park area, next to the skate park, that connects to your camp site. Hey Bricksie, I made this suggestion before. You can always build UP. Combining some sets together Ninjago City style. All the official sets look nice but you have more than enough Bricks to build MEGA Mocs. And All that space "in the air" is still available real estate. Lol

I think the bowling alley would look good next to the diner, sharing the same parking lot. All of your classic cars would look good with both businesses.

Since that there is a camp ground beside the diner and the beach is close, you could blend that spare base plate a small payground as a part of the camp ground.

For some reason, I think the diners fits very well with that hill behind it. I'm still not much a fan of 8-stud-wide cars on city though. 😅 About the off-topic changes you had to made, I always see Ninjago as a city found somewhere bordering the coast or a low height river level. Have you ever thought about switching the positions of the farm and Ninjago?

I’ve noticed in the comments that a number of people are not too happy about the farm; not a real farm, no fields etc. Near me, here in the states, there are many small growers who sell produce at farmers markets and also through membership in CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture). Personally, I think your farm is fantastic! Brickmontonians certainly need their veg! An open market between the farm and the town seems perfect :-) Just my thoughts.

Looks great. Love the look of the diner and lot. FYI...you did not use jumpers...jumpers are used for half-stud offsets. You had used 1x4 tiles with 2 studs...which are meant to reduce the overall clutch power between LEGO "layers" in modulars so as to ease removal.

Where do the farmers live? In the barn with the animals? Adding a farmhouse and a roadside vegetable stand or market will nicely fill in that new farm location. Maybe there is a rebrickable model for a farmhouse?

You should integrate the farm in to the camping ground.. In my humble opinion it's out of place now ad the edge of the city. Just make it a 'farm camping' with a little farmers shop, were the camping guest can by there goods directly from the farmer.

If you need to fill space on a temp bases then add the bigger parking lot for the diner for now. I've always wondered where does the farmer live? All I see is a barn and crops and no farm house which always makes the farm seem out of place if not attached to say the zoo to be a working exhibit.

The diner looks good in either position. If you need more space have the smaller parking area. But the larger parking makes sense to show off some cars and makes sense for where people would hang out near the beach/skate park. Looks good and I like your changes. Love the building techniques!

I think a lot of space is being taken up for landscaping these days (which i think is awesome), and there's less space for buildings you may want to add. Maybe a parking lot is a space eater, unless displaying cars is part of the reason for it.

Love the farm change, hope it doesn't end up under the table. I wouldn't use too much of the space for parking...anywhere. Space is too precious! If LEGO cities were supposed to be ultra-realistic you'd have to use space for churches, liquor stores, government offices, landfill and all sorts of things that would consume baseplates...more modular buildings are coming, in no time you'll be glad you have a few baseplates left to fill!

I think the diner definitely needs to face the other way. Maybe just make a small pull in from road instead of a huge parking lot. Then you’d have some space behind the diner for expansion in the future.

Bahahah I was literally writing a comment suggesting a layout for the expanded parking lot... only for you to end up positioning it in the exact way I was about to suggest! xD I'm 100% behind the current location, aaand adding an expanded parking lot. A classic diner like that is the PERFECT place to showcase cars. You could even turn it into a CAR SHOW, and not JUST a parking lot! More story, more cars, aaand it wouldn't be too much to deconstruct if you chose to add something else there instead of the parking lot, later down the line.

I think you should add a second part to the parking lot in front of the diner then you can put some food trucks in there and it could be parking for the skatepark and beach

Hey Bricksie. Just love the diner mills plate. Listening to your ideas around removing the tunnel and road sections next to the zoo and making just a turn, perhaps you can test out the improved corner mills road idea I mentioned before. Think it would also make your corner roads pop a bit more. Also liking the idea to make the water flow around the new placed farm area and run off the table by the bridge section.

Bricksie I think that if you are going to move the farm you can’t have the diner right there. You talked about separating the nature from the downtown area and this goes completely against that by putting a giant parking lot next to the nice looking forest. Plus by putting the farm before the zoo makes no sense because zoos are usually found closer to a downtown rather than beyond farms and by forests. Keep up the good work sorry if I sounded harsh but I just had a bad feeling about these changes! Obviously do what you want to do but I hope you take my opinion into account!

the farm makes me think of the song "Daddy Won't Sell the Farm," by Montgomery Gentry. Also, you could try to build a couple entrances to an underground parking facility to appease the fans who want a parking lot.

Hi Jordan, You should go to Sonic if you have one in your city and check out their menus boards in front of the parking stalls. Seen as your waitress is on roller skates you should make it a little more authentic. How fun would that be.
