The smaller set is Simba and Mufasa, this one is Kimba and Panja (Cesar)! The bird included is NOT a vulture :D Its actualy a bateleur eagle!

I believe the bird isn’t supposed to be a vulture but a Bateleur eagle which reside in Zimbabwe.

I think the animals have flat sides because minifigs do too. I prefer this. Otherwise it wouldn't look like Lego.

It also limits their width, so they can fit in an enclosure or the back of a truck.

Another thorough and helpful review. I agree that the price is right on this set. Lego could build upon it in the upcoming years, too. They could bring in zebras, cheetahs, hyenas, and maybe even a hippo or a giraffe. Ok, the hippo and giraffe might be a bit of a stretch, but Lego could definitely keep this subtheme going. I predict sales will be good as it is already on backorder at S@H. Thanks, Jang!

LEGO City is not currently, nor has it been my favorite line in LEGO; I don’t kno if it is Jan and his enthusiasm for the line or just the kinds of sub-themes and sets LEGO has started releasing in this line, but it is quickly becoming one of my favorite lines and this sub-theme and set is a huge part of that. To expand on the white lion thing, the condition, if you will, is called Leucism, and is very similar to albinism where the latter is a complete lack of skin pigmentation called melanin, and the former is only a little pigmentation. The opposite of leucism is melanism, an abundance of melanin, which is how be get things like black panthers (jaguars and leopards) That aside, I love how this sub-theme gives us more animal moulds, as I like to collect them.

Actually pleasantly surprised by this, especially the price. Hadn't looked into this set before and, watching the review, was already prepared for a $120 price point because of all the terrain pieces and new animal molds + the lego city tax.

It's called a Leucistic Lion. Leucism is most common in Axolotls but is known in many animals. It is reduced pigmentation in the skin but does not cause the pink/red eyes in albinism,

The play value for this set is way up there! There's a lot to do in this one, not to mention all the new animals for this year, get all the sets and you get yourself a big zoo, if that's your intent, cool review, Jang!

What I miss is connecting pieces for the terrain between the sets even though the animals are complimentary. If the sets included 2x4 flat blue pieces that would come a long way. Missed opportunity by Lego.

Is the white lion going into the New Jang City? It could be a real tourist draw card. Back in the pre-Covid days when we could go to the zoo, I could never make it to the lion exhibit. Those critters were far too indolent for my liking. Maybe a white lion would get me there?

I want to like it but I’m honestly a bit disappointed. For such a large time period of castle sets being completely non existent they should’ve come out with one that was much larger with much more detail. I was hoping it would be made in a similar style to the medieval blacksmith and in the 3000 piece range so it didn’t come anywhere near to what I wanted.

Hey Jang, I have this set as well as the other safari set with the helicopter. I think the other set has more play value than this set, purely because of the helicopter, but both sets do look very good together. My only compliant is the price, I live in Australia, so this retails at $180 which is steep.

I don't usually buy city stuff just because I prefer display sets like in Marvel/star wars etc. I'm tempted to get this just for the animals and the builds aren't terrible, just not something that would fit on the shelf

The set, for kids, is pretty good. But I don't see 100€ worth of stuff in it. In value terms, I think it's overpriced and bad value. You're basically paying extra because of the giant elephant (which isn't even a good molde with its inarticulate limbs) and the new road plates. I think it'd have been a better set if they axed those in favour of more bricks to brick-build more things.

I am not a fan of the new animal designs much. It is totally unfair for me to say as an owner of both colors of the former elephants and the old money being one of my favorite molds ever but these just don’t have the charm they once did for me. I love lego’s style of a lot of the early stuff better. A good example being fluffy from HP. The painted faces on creatures doesn’t have the same appeal to me as the molded simplistic details
