One of my favorite aspects of this Castle is that the walls are entirely brick built, no wall panels, no BURPs. Just a wonderful set!

Holy $&@! I had this set. I lived in Sweden in 1982 and got it for Christmas. When you talked about the alternative builds I just had a 40 year old memory I hadn’t thought about in decades come rush long back! At 7 years old I was pissed off that they didn’t include instructions for building the other variants!

Brian I checked the comments to make sure no one mentioned it… the person alongside each knight would be called their squire!

What I especially liked of those vintage sets as a kid is how the built could be achieved without any special pieces. I remember me an my best friend sometimes just looked at pictures from toys catalogues and then tried to recreate those we liked with the boxes of bricks we had home. I'm pretty sure at some point we built a castle very close to this but using grey bricks instead of the yellow ones.

It's great that kids could easily make a horse by copying the ones in this set, and in fact I think I might've done that myself. The horses that came with the slightly later sets were great, though. 🐎

I didn't mind never having instructions for the alternate builds. It forced a kid to use their brain to figure out how to build it. But some of the alternate builds did need an extra picture or two from different angles. 6: 56 I always wondered why Lego didn't utilize this method for a sticking bricks together in their builds. It's a bit more fragile for bigger things but it totally works for some small things.

I’m glad that my parents held on to this for me. Also, I am glad that it is in such good condition. I always loved this castle set. For years, I used it as a police station. It is a simple castle, but I always loved the design, and symmetry of it. Now, I need to search for all the figures and accessories.

I got this for Xmas in the early 80s and loved it! Unfortunately I gave it to a younger family member in the late 80s or early 90s. I loved this and I have always loved both Lego and castles. I still do and regret not keeping it. Cool video and build!

I got this set when it first released. It now sits 100% in my curio cabinet. I got it for Christmas built it and unlike most kids I never took it apart. Sadly, I didn’t take as much care of my other sets.

I would love to see Lego include so many minifigures nowadays. I would be happy with any figures except knight’s kingdom 2 figure, those look like fisher price toys.
@Lordodragonss3 жыл бұрын
Big sets ususal have a lot of minifigs
@strangehermitman78983 жыл бұрын
Even if this set has the same price as those large sets adjusted for inflation, it feels more like a $120 playset than a $180 modular or something akin to that since large old sets usually feel overpriced compared to the thing you get. Generally those playsets have 7-9 figures, not 14.
@Lordodragonss3 жыл бұрын
@@strangehermitman7898 Minifigs cost way more than they costed back then. Even most basic ones.
@strangehermitman78983 жыл бұрын
Lego in 1985 was far costlier to produce (40 cents per piece), which I assume would also apply with the printed minifigure parts.

I would love another video on what to generally pay for just the bricks, with a catalog, with a box, with all fourteen mini figures with most of them having stickers. I am having trouble determining a price in my mind. What I want mostly are the mini figures with stickers and gear. I got the joust set growing up but not the castle. Remember gravitating towards the mini figures as a child as well. Would go to Sears and lift the lids of the different sets to see the pieces in them. I remember seeing large creative builds on display in the store (they were the size of the figures in Lego Land).
@gregleuze6657 Жыл бұрын
Bought one on EBay with a box-rough shape, instructions-good shape, all stickers present-figures and castle, and all the figures. Probably paid too high but I paid $600.00. Building it with my girls. This being the first castle and one of the earlier themes this was a learning experience.

Tiles on their sides between studs are legal, plates are not. This is due to a difference in height. (From what I know)

In my lego time, we were not very well off. So my mother couldn't afford to buy me many sets. My usual solution was reverse engineering from catalog pictures. I built quite a lot of technics sets (with no respect for color) by buying two or three special parts in a local shop where they sold those seperately. Sometimes getting the internal mechanics right needed two or three iterations but I always got it done.
@henrysvintagetoys Жыл бұрын
there are different stickers for the knights for both the armor and the shield. It is not a production error. There is both a blue and a purple version
@Creatively_Bankrupt Жыл бұрын
Wedging a tile between studs isn't illegal, but wedging a plate between studs is. Tiles are just a tiny bit thinner than plates and it's enough of a difference for Lego to say it doesn't place stress on them.

Do you know why the castle is yellow because Lego was so strict back then that they didn’t make it gray because they were afraid that kids would make it into military staff

Also back then yellow was used as gold, before that colour existed in legos colour pallet. Also this is confirmed in the nexo knights season 1 episode “the golden castle” where a poster depicting Ned Knightly in front of this castle is described as golden.

With the immense price tag these old castle sets now hold what keeps people from buying the sets piece by piece? I’ve checked and for some sets it is more affordable to do this method rather than buying the set, is it considered inauthentic?

That box looked fantastic. I remember as a kid I had the King Castle (6080) and I looked at this box 375 back in the 80's when my uncle showed his castle and I said, man, that's ugly - he's yellow! Now I know the history of it, I do love my 6080 castle. Recently putting it back to his former glory. Hence why I lurked at your video. Thank you so much for sharing. I just found my castle and built for the first time in ages. I got this new when it came out (European version). Mine is complete and I have all the stickers. I am surprised too! Does anyone know what spare pieces was included? I have extra knights gear, like lance, sword, shield and breast plate, and this was the only lego I ever owned in this series so it must have been included in the box.
@gregleuze6657 Жыл бұрын
I always thought the person with the knight was their squire. Are there any plans on rereleasing this set? The figures could have prints instead of stickers so they could be easily distinguishable from the originals.

I would just look on ebay to try to buy lots that include the figures. I got lucky and found a listing with the box, many of the figures, and a bunch of pieces for the Knight's Tournament for only $90. I kept the box, the figures I needed, and then was able to Bricklink the pieces for the Knight's Tournament for about $40. If you just want to buy them for their normal price, keep an eye on Bricklink. The box rarely comes up for sale anywhere, but if you're patient you may find it!
