You cant do it on a 6 wide cat easily. You have to use the 1x2s with one stud and door pieces so you can sit two minifigures without compromising arm space inside.

If we take the height of the minifigure as 6ft, then width wise they're massive. Humans tend to be narrow and tall, unless they're massive bodybuilders. So the problem is the width of the minifigure. Someone didn't take anatomy drawing class to study proportions lmao

At the end of the day the problem is that Lego minifigures are nowhere near the same proportions as actual humans - they're /much/ wider and stouter. I think we intuitively correlate minifigure to human scale based on height, but it'd be more accurate to do so based on /width/. Of course, the real answer to 'how can we design a lego city when so much space needs to go towards cars?' is the one real cities are answering with 'less car-centered design'!

I mean most people's LEGO cities are massively underscale. Compare real cities to modulars and you begin to see just how small the sets are. The footprint of a correctly scaled skyscraper, for instance, would be easily ~500 studs x ~500 studs, let alone the height that'd easily be several actual storeys tall. LEGO Speed Champions are accurately scaled, IMO, but LEGO doesn't sell any technically accurately scaled buildings so the cars seem out of place.

No it's just not practical to design every 6 wide car like that. Especially in city sets that are marketed towards kids. Unlike speed champions which is marketed towards older people who care about accuracy.

No thats not the only way to fix it. You can fit 2 minfigures side by side in a 6 wide vehicle if you use jumper tiles. Its just they didnt bother to design the car to be able to do it. I might mod it myself at some point if I buy it.

My big ongoing LEGO project is a big rig that is 10 studs wide at the widest point. The hood is 6, the cab is 8, and the sleeper cab is 10. The trailer is roughly equivalent to 12, and also 1 1/2 feet long. I still consider it minifigure scale because minifigures do in fact fit inside of it. I have never learned how to build in scale, and I refuse to.

Two solutions: use jumpers that stretch from wall to wall that will space the minifigs half a stud apart [note: the walls will need to be thinner to contain their arms. Another is just staggering the two figs so one sits closer to the front of the car

One of my secret techniques to fit two minifigures into a six-wide car is to use the 1x2 offset stud plates such that the five-wide offset interior could pack into a six-wide. It takes some illegal building techniques, but it works really well

I convert the Lego police cars to be like Toyota pickups and have 3 minifigs carry weapons in the back, and 1 minifig drive with a gun in the socket of the window piece. Yes I convert them to be combat capable. That is because brickmania is too pricey for me and I have a lot of normal bricks ( my guns are 3 of those small pipe pieces? And a stud on the end of it. To fix the 8x8 cars problem, I add 2x4 tiles to the sides of the new road plates, and then used 1x4 tiles to fill in the other spaces. Finished it off with light grey tiles around the sides and it adds just enough space for the cars without looking wonky or oversized

Lego speed champions cars went from 6 studs to 8-9 studs wide to fit two mini figures. As to why they didn’t do it here is anyone’s guess and mine is to keep the cost low
